Hi everyone,
is there a keyboard shortcut to toggle the “Hidden” property in the Properties panel?
I often need to hide elements quickly and would like to do this without using the mouse if possible.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, you can assign a shortcut to Hide/Show Item, in the Edit category in Key Commands.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I had already tried assigning a shortcut to Hide/Show Item under the Edit category, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to affect the “Hidden” toggle in the Properties panel. In fact it does nothing.
That’s why I allowed myself to bother the forum with this request.
Which specific Hidden property are you referring to, for what specific kind of item?
In this case, I’m referring to the Hidden property in the Properties panel for Chord Symbols.
There’s a strange behavior: I made a video to show it.
When I select a single item and trigger the command, nothing happens.
If I select multiple items at once, it still does nothing.
But if I select multiple items one by one, it hides only the last one selected.
Also, I noticed that if I select the chord symbol in a way that shows the handle for a line (didn’t know it was an option), then the shortcut works. Otherwise, it doesn’t.
Ok, as far as I can tell, there are two ways to select a chord symbol. One shows a handle that lets you extend a line from it, and the shortcut only works when the chord symbol is selected in that way. But it’s not possible to select multiple chord symbols with handles like that, not sure if I explained that clearly.
The code for that is:
UI.InvokePropertyChangeValue?Type=kChordSymbolHidden&Value=null:
You can manually add it to your user keycommands file following the syntax of the other entries if you want.
-
You can also drag select them.
-
After selecting the first chord symbol, using the Select More command (often multiple times) is useful too.

Dorico accepts two-step shortcuts so I have all my Filter commands set to be Cmd+F and then a modifier. With this method my Filter shortcut for Chord Symbols is Cmd+F, Q. The way I most often select chords is just to select the whole region I want and then use that shortcut.
Thanks a lot for the detailed reply and for the tip about manually adding the command to the keycommands file — that’s very useful and I will try to implement that in my workflow.
That said, the way the shortcut only works when the chord symbol is selected with the handle (and not in other cases) still feels like unintended behavior. Especially since you can’t select multiple chord symbols in that way, it makes the shortcut pretty unreliable in practice. So it does seem like a bug, or at least an inconsistency worth looking into.
I don’t mean to be tedious — I just hope this kind of feedback can be useful to the developers.
Sorry, I’m not really following what you mean here. In the gif below I did a Select All, then used my Cmd+F Q shortcut to Filter for chord symbols, then switched to Engrave and manually clicked the Hidden toggle. At no point did I select a chord symbol handle. Does this not work for you?

Thanks, but the whole point — as stated in the subject — is about the shortcut.
I know how to filter chord symbols and how to manually click the Hidden toggle in the Properties panel. The issue I’m describing is specific to the Hide/Show Item shortcut, which doesn’t behave consistently. That’s why I believe it’s a bug.
Oh, sorry, I guess I started reading halfway through the thread and misunderstood what you were asking. That shortcut works fine for me though. What shortcut do you have assigned here?

I too am having problems with a shortcut for “hide/show item”. I’ve had it set for more than a year and since 6.0 or 6.0.10 (not sure which) it’s been problematic. It’s definitely buggy and I suspect I’ll have to do a video to prove it. It works willy-nilly - select one chord symbol, sometimes it will hide, sometimes it refuses. Then I deselect and reselect and about 50% chance it will hide the item. If I select a row of chords, and activate the shortcut, it will hide only one of the chords.
I can confirm the same problem as Riccardo. I have to really faff with the chord symbol to get its extender line to show, only then will hiding it via a shortcut work. This is erratic behaviour,. surely unintended, and I hope it can be fixed.
H, the same as you! For me it doesn’t work. Can you try selecting just one chord symbol?
It doesn’t work with just one selected, unless I click around and make the extender line handle visible. The whole process is now time consuming and awkward, whereas it worked flawlessly before. Looking forward to this bug being fixed.
I was asking to @FredGUnn , maybe his results are different
I just tried, and you’re right, this is broken in D6. It still works fine in D5 …

… but no longer works in D6.

Definitely seems like a bug.
Has anyone found a fix for this? I’m having this exact problem in November and I notice this discussion was back in June. Worked great in D5, not working D6 and causing a lot of extra time hiding chord symbols manually through the properties panel
