Bug - Typing values in the mix console while temporary grouping

In C13, I could select multiple channels, double-click the dB value on one of them, type in a new dB value, and—by holding down the “Option” key—all selected channels would adjust relative to that value.

For example, if Fader 1 was at 0 dB, Fader 2 at -2 dB, and Fader 3 at -5 dB, typing -5 dB on Fader 1 would adjust them to -5, -7, and -10 dB, respectively.

In C14, this no longer seems to work as expected.

On a positive note, the transition from C13 to C14 has been one of the smoothest upgrades I’ve experienced. I’m really enjoying this new version!

Can anyone else confirm if they’re seeing this change?

Hi,

It wasn’t Alt, it was Alt+Shift to activate Q-Link. But I can confirm this issue.

Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

Thanks Martin!

Yes, Alt+Shift. Doing that 1 gazillion times per day, apologies for leaving the Shift out my post.

Also, I realized that I can not color multiple tracks at the same time. Do you experience the same?

Hi,

As far as I know, this was never possible. The Color object doesn’t respect the Q-Link.

Thank you for following up, Martin!

For this issue, I’m absolutely sure as I’ve just double-checked in Cubase 13. In the Project window, I select multiple tracks, then click around the track type icon, and by holding “Option” (not Alt + Shift in this case), I can color multiple tracks at once. However, this no longer seems possible in Cubase 14.

I’ve attached a WeTransfer video link for reference (OSX 13.7.1 M2, Cubase 13.0.50). Would you mind looking into this?
Coloring multiple tracks at once on Cubase 13

Thank you very much!

Hi,

I tried this in Cubase 13.0.50, and it doesn’t work for me the way you describe it. Only one track has been coloured.

Thanks Martin! Have you had a chance to look at the video?

Hi,

I’m sorry, the video is not available. Probably I was too late, sorry.

I can re upload it later today if that’s ok with you.

Here’s the new video!
I previously reported the shortcut incorrectly: the only modifier I use to apply multiple colors simultaneously with C13 is by holding down the ‘Shift’ key.

On Windows I’ ve only ever used the Q-Link button to modify multiple track settings (and it still works on V14). The Alt+Shift combination causes Windows to change keyboard languages.
I cannot confirm that using the Shift modifier on V13 allows changing colour on multiple tracks. Only the track where I Shift+Click on actually changes colour.

Hi,

To show the Color Palette, while clicking on the track-type icon (ie the waveform or MIDI, Instrument…), I have to hold down the Alt/Opt key. Otherwise, the Color Palette doesn’t appear.

Once the Color Palette appears, it doesn’t matter, if I hold Alt/Opt + Shift or Shift or Alt/Opt. The colour is always applied to the one track only. It’s the same in Cubase 13 and Cubase 14 on my side.

So am I the only one enjoying this weird behavior in C13? :joy:
So unfortunate that it didn’t pass on C14.

For me it works in C13 the same and I am using it all the time (I am on PC)
In project window I select multiple tracks with CTRL and mouse click, then I hold SHIFT and click the area below the track icon (as shown below in red)

C13

→ Color palette appears. Then I release the key, only click on the requested color = all selected tracks get the same color.
This does not work in C14? If not, why??

Omg, thanks Johnny! Happy to hear there’s another soul that made it work!
Can we get that behavior ported on C14 as well? :pray:t2:

Nope, no matter what modifier I use I can’t get multiple tracks to change colour in V13, and of course it’s just the same for me in V14.
I wish it did work, it would be really useful!

Hello!
I found the way to reproduce this “colorize” behaviour.
I was very curious because people on VI-C forum reported the same bug and I was like “how are they able to get this color list? My color list looks NOTHING like that…”
Long story short, I hypothesized it had to be a setting somewhere that some people enabled and others didn’t, and I believe was correct.

@Martin.Jirsak , here is how to reproduce:
-Launch Cubase and add a few tracks.
-Go to Project > Project Colors Setup… > Options tab, then check the “Select Colors by Name” option and click Apply.
-Select multiple tracks.
-Shift+click on area shown in comments above on one of the selected tracks.
-Select a color.
RESULT:
Cubase 13: All selected tracks will change color.
Cubase 14: Only the track you clicked on will change color.

Since we don’t know how long it will take to fix, I also found a workaround that works on both versions and doesn’t change the workflow too much.
Make sure you have the “Color Menu” set to be visible on the top toolbar of the main interface, select multiple tracks, click on the color palette icon on the toolbar, select the color and all selected tracks will change color as expected, even on Cubase 14.

Edit: Or I just found out you can bring up this same “Colorize Selected Tracks” thing as a floating menu with Alt + Shift + C. And it also works to colorize multiple tracks at once on 14.

Also, thank you @dream for reporting the Q-Link bug with entering numbers on the mix console. I use this ALL the time! haha

Found another way to do this. Select your tracks then hit Alt+Shift+c. You’ll get the colour menu. Select the colour you want and it will apply to all selected tracks. This works for me in V14 as well.
I’m on a PC.

@philthevoid I can confirm your method works on V13 with Select Colours by Name enabled. Does not work on V14.

EDIT: Whoops… didn’t read below the picture in Phil’s post.

Omg Phil! You’re a genius! :hugs:
Thank YOU for taking the time to report this properly. I’m gonna try your workaround shortly.

I’m doing these things so many millions time a day that I don’t even know anymore what I’m pressing on the keyboard. :joy:

EDIT: @philthevoid Both your method works! (OSX Ventura, M2 Ultra). :pray:t2:
