I may have found a glitch that prevents Wavelab 13.0.20 from saving or reading markers when “Write Markers in WAV File Header (BWF Format)” is selected in File > Preferences > Audio Files > File.
Observationally, if BWF format is selected in the Preferences, then the markers either aren’t saved in the .wav file header when the file is saved, or something else goes wrong and the markers aren’t being opened or displayed when the file is re-opened after closing it or Wavelab. It seems to work fine when the markers are saved in RIFF format only.
Also, it’s possible to select saving in both BWF and RIFF formats simultaneously in the File options, and if that’s done, then the markers are not saved or read when the file is reopened.
To reproduce:
File > Preferences > Audio Files > File and select the box to save markers in headers in BWF format.
Open a .wav file, add some markers to it, save the file, close it – better yet, close Wavelab – and re-open the file. Are the markers gone? (I use CD tracks, Title Index and Correction markers; probably doesn’t matter which type, though).
Unselect the BWF option and choose RIFF instead. Repeat step #2. Are the markers re-displayed?
For what it’s worth, I don’t remember this happening in WL 12. I also think I choose to save the markers in both formats when I set up WL 13 on a new computer, and I used to select RIFF only on my old computer, but I’m not sure.
Also, FWIW, in Wavelab’s File > Open dialog, where a thumbnail of the audio file is displayed at the bottom of the dialog, the markers are missing as well.
I located the problem: there’s a selection box for “save error and corrections markers” in the same location as the BWF v. RIFF settings. It was unchecked. Checking it restored saving these markers.
