Bug when selecting all midi events on the same pitch

Hey,

when I work with MIDI and especially when I’m working with MIDI drums I like to select all MIDI events on the same note / the same pitch - say the snare for example to change the velocity of selected events (all snare hits). Recently I had an isssue in serveral projects.

Here’s what I do:

  1. I open the MIDI in the key editor to edit a drum beat with events on various pitches
  2. I select all events on D1 by pressing CTRL + Click on D1 in the piano roll on the left of the editor.

That’s when the following bug occurs: All events are selected except for the very first one which is not selected and suddenly has a velocity of 127 even though I did not touch the velocity of any event.

I’m running Cubase Pro 13.0.40 on Win 11

Can anyone reproduce this behaviour on their system?

And if so: can we please get that fixed?

Thank you!

Does not occur in Cubase Pro 12.0.71 (Win 10).

Hi,

Do you use the Key- or the Drum Editor, please?

I haven’t seen this issue (Cubase 13.0.41).

Hi,
I use the key editor.

Hi,

Can you always reproduce it? Does it happen with any project or just a specific one?

Hi,

I’ve just tried it in a fresh project with nothing but one instrument track and everything was fine. Then I opened a project in which the problem had occurred before and it immediately happened again. I then started another fresh project and as soon as I created a second instrument track, the problem appeared and didn’t go away even when I deleted that second instrument track and was back to an otherwise blank project with one instrument track. It’s weird.
In said project that had the problem before it doesn’t happen on midi clips with long notes like a pad. I can’t put my finger on it yet but definitely seems to occur only when it’s more than one instrument track… The midi information is not identical on the tracks where the problem occurs by the way and it is not the same instrument I’m triggering. I’m confused.

Hi,

Could you please attach a project, where the issue happens? Even the small one.

Hi,

Confirmed and reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for your support

Hi,

This issue is caused by the MIDI Input and its Record Pitch options enabled in the Key Editor. If you disable MIDI Input, then rthe selection works as expected.

You can also Shift + double-click to the 1st Note, to select the Note and all following Notes of the same Pitch.

Hi,

You’re absolutely right. Thank you. That’s a great work around for now. I prefer to use the ctrl + click on the piano roll but shift + double click works too.
