Bug with Dorico

Hello,

I was with Finale and bought Dorico two weeks ago. Since then, I sometimes have bugs with the software. I downloaded the software on my Dell PC, but also on my Acer laptop, and both have the same problem. In fact, Dorico crashes from time to time, the wait wheel keeps spinning and I have to force it to quit, which causes me to lose everything if I forget to back up regularly. So far, I’ve been having fun recopying existing partitions to get to know it, but that’s the third time it’s happened and I’ve had to quit since I bought it. The problem has been much less recurrent with Finale in recent years.
Is it because I’m trying to go too fast, or is this a problem that Dorico has yet to fix?

My PC is only four years old and my laptop one year old, and both have plenty of storage capacity. I’ve used very simple things to work with, like four voices and piano, or just two voices or two violins or two trumpets. I’m told that there are backup systems, but I haven’t seen anything, Dorico hasn’t offered me anything so far.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, @Claude_Grenier!

I’d suggest generating a Diagnostic Report (Help Menu on a Mac) and uploading it — if you can. No doubt another will come along soon with more detailed advice.

Hi @Claude_Grenier, you find the Auto-save and Backup settings (besides the Default Project folder setting) in Dorico’s Preferences/General/Files:

Which is exactly the first (and only) advice I posted…

Dorico is usually pretty stable. The majority of problems are caused by interaction with some flaky third-party VSTs, or the murky world of Windows audio drivers.

I’d investigate those aspects first; but as said, if you upload a Diagnostic Report, then the team will have all the relevant information they need about your setup.
