If you use shared copy midi parts in the new score editor you lose the ability to use ‘L’ (Locate Selection Start) which is currently the only meaningful/quick way to move the cursor when navigating the score.
I’ve attached a project. Open the score. Select a note in the second or third copy of the chorus and hit L, it always goes to the first instance.
I know you can press N to move to the next instance but in a large score you are just hitting N randomly hoping to see the cursor soon which defeats the purpose.
It would be good to know of they have been considered in the design of the score editor as they are essential/a killer feature for dealing with repeated sections in complex scores (in particular for lyrics). It would be great to see that develop more.
Thanks for the video. I see whats going on - you need to be viewing the full score. Highlight the last “la” in the last bar, hit L - locator goes to the first bar.
If you select the same note in the Midi Key Editor and hit L it gets it correct.
@PaulWalmsley great to see the score editor improvements in 15, thank you. Just checking in on the above issue for your thoughts - this is still a bug right? In Full Score it doesn’t make sense to me that locator jumps to a different note to the one you highlighted (when using shared midi parts)
Ok, yes I can see this now. I can’t see a simple solution to this because when you are showing the full track, the score editor doesn’t have any concept of the active part. When you click on one note then all the other copies of it are highlighted because as far as the score editor is concerned, they are the same note. This is different to the key editor where you are always editing one part (though the other parts can be displayed)
Ok I see. The underlying need is really about navigating the score and being able to say “play from here” in all circumstances. Shouldn’t we really be able to click and move the CB locator/playhead in the score itself? Even a bar level granularity would be helpful for now, e.g. clicking on a bar number and the CB playhead moving there. Anything you can do appreciated!
Alt-shift and mouse click in the score – that will set the playback locator to the correct global time. I’ve just verified this works ok for the shared parts in your example
