Burning CDs in Wavelab 10 and earlier has been 100% reliable. On Wavelab 12 it is 0% reliable. This is running on the same machine and using the same CD burner so that is not the source of the problem. In WL 10 or earlier, it would take a while to get up to speed. On WL12 it starts up at full speed instantly. I expect this is the source of my problem. Is there a fix for this? Does WL 13 fix the problem?
What is your operating system?
Sorry I should have mentioned it was Win 10 when the problem started but it is still present on Win 11.
On Windows, no change has been done for CD burning for many years. Therefore, the reason for your problem may be the installation of something on your system, that interacts negatively. I’m pretty sure that if you run WaveLab 10 on your updated system, it will be the same thing.
How would you describe your problem exactly?
I have both Wavelab 10 and 12 on the same machine. Wavelab 10 burns the CD perfectly. When burning the CD it starts slowly and gradually speeds up the writing speed. The Wavelab 12 starts burning at full speed immediately and the CD is unplayable. This is true for the old machine Windows 10 and now the new machine Win 11. As a result I still use Wavelab 10 as the Wavelab 12 montage files are not compatible with Wavelab 10. I left my old Wavelab 9.5 on the Win 10 machine and it still burns CDs just fine as well. All my previous versions of Wavelab started the burn very slowly then sped up the writing speed and they all worked well.
The fact that the burning of a CD starts differently seems to indicate there is some difference in how it works. Wavelab 12 doesn’t burn CDs on both Win 10 and Win 11.
We very rarely have a conflict with another extra CD application installed on the same system. But this is the first time I hear about a difference between WaveLab 12 and WaveLab 10 on Windows. Now, this is true that the driver was updated between the two versions, and you could try, if you like, to replace it in WaveLab 12.
Make a backup copy first (of the following files in WaveLab 12), then copy them from WaveLab 10 to WaveLab 12. This might work, but I give no guarantee.

I believe that does it! I made the change on my Win 10 machine and on the Win11 machine and now WaveLab 12 has burned one CD successfully on each machine. I will try more CDs to make sure it really works reliably. I will be away for a week, but I hope to try more CDs when I return to make sure it is reliable. It now takes some time to start burning as it did in WaveLab 10 and earlier, which is a good sign, but ramps up to 16x very quickly. However, the 2 CDs I burned played OK.
Thank you very much for this information. It is interesting that I had the same problem on 2 different machines with 2 different OS version. I purchased WaveLab 12 about 15 months ago, but haven’t been able to use it because of this problem. I expect that when I upgrade to WaveLab 12 It will have the same problem and I hope this solution will work with it as well.
