C14 project template saving bug

Hi,
I have posted the below text some time ago in response to another post and, as I got no reaction, I re-post it here.

I have a strange problem with C14 template saving. When I decide to save a new template the window shows the list of templates that were deleted a while ago. So, I save the new template and it does not show on this list. It shows when I open C14, but the list in the window for saving a template does not show the new template, only stubbornly shows these old, non-existent templates. Clicking on “reveal in Finder” obviously gives nothing. I went backwards to C13 and C12, removed all templates, yet still the list is populated by these non-existent templates. I also went to Media Bay, found Project Templates folder containing these old templates, deleted them all, but nothing changed. To make thing even more strange, the folder itself allows for revealing in Finder as well as for view refresh and disk rescan. Revealing in Finder shows proper folder content, first rescan added the existing templates to these old ones, view refresh removed the existing ones and the whole situation returned square one - only old, nonexistent templates are displayed.
Anyone experienced the same? Found a solutions?
Any hint here will be appreciated.

Sometimes, Cubase caches template lists or other data. Clearing the cache manually might force Cubase to refresh and display the correct templates.
You can do this by navigating to the Cubase preferences folder on your computer.
Here’s how:
On Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase 14/
On Windows: C:\Users\[Your User]\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 14\

Look for files that mention templates or preferences (such as user.xml, or similar) and try renaming them temporarily to force Cubase to rebuild these settings on startup.

If the issue persists, it might be worth deleting or resetting Cubase preferences. Be sure to back up your preferences beforehand, as this will reset all custom settings to their default state. The preferences folder is typically in the same location mentioned above.

It might be a permissions issue where Cubase isn’t able to access or update the Templates folder properly. Try checking the folder’s permissions to ensure that Cubase can read and write to that location.
On Mac: Right-click the folder > Get Info > Check the “Sharing & Permissions” section.
On Windows: Right-click the folder > Properties > Security tab > Check permissions.

If none of the above works, you could try reinstalling Cubase 14 completely. Uninstall the program, delete the Cubase preferences, and then reinstall it fresh. This should clear out any corrupted or stubborn files.

Another approach could be to directly modify the template list file. Sometimes, Cubase stores template information in an XML file or a database. You could try to find this file in the preferences folder or the template folder and open it with a text editor to manually remove the old templates.

Occasionally, bugs like this are resolved with patches or updates. Make sure your Cubase is up to date with the latest version or hotfixes, as this could be a known issue with an easy fix.

If none of these work, it may be a more specific issue with your installation or OS configuration, and reaching out to Steinberg support might be the next best step. They might have a more tailored solution or bug fix for this kind of problem.

Hi,
In your advice there was a very helpful hint. So, to straighten up the situation it was enough to move UserPreferences.xml from Cubase folder to another safe location, launch Cubase (you could see that all your setting disappeared) which made Cubase create a new user prefs file, close Cubase and put the original user prefs back to its original folder. Once Cubase is opened again all prefs are back and the new “save template” list is correct.
So, thanks a lot.
