C14 Strange behaviour when moving tracks to upper split

C14, Win 11.

I create an upper/lower split on my arrange page and I drag tracks from lower to upper. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Tracks seem to end up in random places, and sometimes they disappear altogether, so I have to undo the move to get them back.

I’m getting the same problem on two different computers.

Hi, @The_Elf

I guess that it’s the Project > Divide track list feature that is involved. If so, it doesn’t happen, here (C14.0.20, Windows 10 22H2) : each time I do bring one or several track(s) from the lower section to the upper, I get the usual graphical indications which allow me to drop the involved track where wanted, this, even at the end of the list.

Does this happen also in Safe mode, with the Disable program preferences option ?

Getting it again and again today. I move a MIDI track to the upper division area and… it completely disappears. I’ve had to stop using the divide feature altogether.

I don’t want to get into trying to diagnose this - just reporting it and wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same.

Not seeing that here. Is there anything special about this you can provide?
Do you get this if you create a new project? What are the steps?
MIDI tracks only?
Did it only start in 14.0.20? Can you check previous versions?
Did you make sure the tracks were not hidden?
Make a video illustrating it?

I have the same problem - and I thought I was the only one!

Today, when I drag an audio track from the lower track list to last place in the upper list it appears to have disappeared. But I found it in a folder, that wasn’t in last place!
(I don’t often do this, and when I do I usually press ctrl-z.)
Not 100% certain, but I think trying the above with a MIDI track does nothing, i.e. it stays where it was.

But the most annoying bug (or feature?) for me is that when dragging any track from the lower track list to a folder in the upper list, it will always ‘miss’ and be above or below the folder. I then have to drag it into the folder.

I can’t help much with the debugging at the moment. But I think the problem was also in C13. Maybe even earlier. I’m running C14.0.30

Thank you for confirming. The problem seems to have gone away on my home studio system, but at my other studio the problem seems to be getting more persistent.

When I try to move tracks into a folder in the upper split I too find the tracks don’t go into the folder. Sometimes they simply appear underneath the folder, and sometimes they disappear and I have to ‘undo’ to recover them.

It seem odd that this problem seems to be affecting so few of us. Maybe few people use the split feature.

Maybe connected… I’m also finding with one Project that I can’t move a Group Track in the mixer to my preferred position - it simply refuses to move. If I move it in the Project window it moves fine - but its position is not reflected in the mixer.

I suspect I am seeing teething problems related to the new moving tracks in the mixer feature.

I genuinely think there’s a bug here. Hopefully the word will get to Steinberg.
