C15 & VEP Performance Significantly Worse than C14

I do a lot of game soundtrack type work with Cubase and Vienna Ensemble Pro, and after upgrading to C15 I’ve noticed that my large projects completely fall apart when I am using Cubase 15 and a local instance of Vienna Ensemble Pro, whereas they work fine with Cubase 14. I recently upgraded from VEP7 to VEP8 and it had no effect.

I have a stereo recording of Cubase’s output of 10 seconds of the same project in C14 and C15, but this forum isn’t letting me upload it and I can’t include links apparently. You can hear that it sounds normal in C14 with the click track in the background, but in C15, the click track stops (it’s supposed to be going), and the midi percussion timing starts going all over the place. Same exact project.

Am I missing something? I am at a total loss because all the Preferences and audio settings between the two programs are identical. Really hoping something improves because it sucks to not be able to use future versions until performance improves.

Hi Tony. Sorry to hear about your issue and I can’t really help with that. What I can help with is getting you to the point where you can post files and links, by getting your Trust Level bumped up a notch. I’m going to be a little lazy and just paste in from a previous post of mine:

Here are the official rules for getting bumped up a level. The default Discourse setting is that you can post a video link at Trust Level 1, but that can be changed by Steinberg and I’m not exactly sure if they changed it, but I have seen plenty of links to videos here so I don’t think they have :

Get to trust level 1 by…

*** Entering at least 5 topics**
*** Reading at least 30 posts**
*** Spend a total of 10 minutes reading posts**

By reading they just mean slowly scrolling by a post. This is set by the software (not Steinberg) to keep spammers out. It works pretty well. So it just takes 10 minutes of scrolling through posts - make sure you enter at least 5 topics and scroll past at least 30 posts in those topics and spend 10 minutes and you should be good to go. It might take a minute or two for the server to bump you up. If it doesn’t let you link things after a few minutes try logging out of the forum and logging back in.

Hope you get some help from someone who knows more about VEP and get things worked out.
Cheers

If you want to know more, here is the full explanation from Discourse (makers of the software the forum uses)

Thank you SF_Green, I wasn’t aware. Just signed up to post my message.

Here is a video link demonstrating the problem. Using OBS simultaneously does degrade performance of both versions of Cubase very slightly, you can hear some small dropouts and glitches with C14. Normally it would be smooth. But still, C15 absolutely falls apart.

Ik am guessing different asio guard settings. Ifaik and i used vep5, asio guard should be off for vep, but on a new install it is always on. But don’t disable asio guard globally, just for the vep plugins. You can do that in the plugin manager. Select the plugin and at the bottom you can set disable asio guard if you click info

Thanks for the reply, vinark. Unfortunately I have already disabled ASIO Guard for VEP plugins in both versions. ASIO settings are globally the same between both as well.
