C15: When selecting automation in the Project Window, I can't see which ones are being used

Bump. I know NAMM is almost here, but I’ve had to go back to C14 because of this and another issue. I really want to get back to C15 to enjoy its improvements, but this and the other issue are costing me too much time and I have tight deadlines every day.

I would like word from someone that this definitive issue is being remedied for the upcoming revision.

Bump. I love Cubase and am also feeling super frustrated because I can’t get this issue officially acknowledged. For everyone who uses a lot of automation and needs instant access to parameters, this is essential for everyday workflow and makes it not usable for so much of my work because it costs a lot of time every day for me in my large score work.

I’m sure it’s just a something that accidentally broke when instating Last Touched feature. I’m calm and not in a fit, and I just need confirmation of this 100% reproducible bug that I hope should be easily remedied. Thank you.

I’m joining this thread because I’m struggling with the exact same problem.

Bump. When Last Touched is disabled we need Cubase to revert in every way to the great way things were handled before. I’m going to keep bumping until this is acknowledged, I’m afraid.

Mega Fist Bumb

Cubase 15 really has too many small bugs that just block my workflow too much.
This automation thing is a big one, pitchbend not showing, midi sends have original plugin names instead of track names blablabla

I could be me, maybe its my mac, but Im going back to 14!

It’s not you as far as the automation issue I’m talking about. I wrote on another thread that this is the first time I’ve had to go back one version, and this is one of the big reasons.

According to a quick Google search, this was done intentionally by Steinberg. Why, I have no idea. How can the app not show the parameters that already have automation on them so you can select which one you want to edit. I’ve never seen this in a DAW over all the years using many of them. Yes, you can assign a shortcut to “Show all automation on the selected track, but what would be the point if you are only editing one parameter. And if you have a lo of automation on a track, it could take up most of your screen. Any tracks with automation on them need to show which parameters are effected like all previous versions of Cubase have. I’ve reported this to tech support, but they just said they will have to look into why it’s like this.

I also just noticed that if you disable the option to “Show at Top” of list the last touched parameters in the Automation Panel (Settings), it still shows them for each track anyway. Thus the option doesn’t eve seem to work, leading me to believe that this has to be some kind of bug with the app.

Agreed, yes. It’s a significant problem when you have lots of automation, so much that I went back to C14.

All Steinberg needs to do is have it return to how it has been for years, in every way, when you disable Last Touched. Done.

One work around besides showing all automation on the track is if you have the plugin open and just touch the parameter before opening a single automation lane, it should automatically open to that parameter (as long as you have “Show on Next Automation Track” enabled in the Automation Panel Settings). Also, if you have an automation lane open already and have one parameter selected on it from that specific plugin, you can right click the lane (or assign a shortcut) to select “Show Only Automation Tracks for (plugin name)”. That will only show atuomation lanes for that single plugin instead of all automated plugins on that track. I still think they need to add the option back to show used automation lanes in the list as well though. I’m always amazed at the people that make these kind of decisions when developing the software. I question whether some of them even use the software themselves or just sit there all day writing code.

So after messing around with Cubase 15 this morning a bit more, I found that having the option “Show at Top” for last touched parameter selected seems to have nothing to do with showing the parameter at the top of the list, but actually opens a new automation lane with that parameter selected. This works the same on Mac and PC. Also, there are two different shortcuts you can use to open automation lanes for a track. When you use ”Show Automation” it only opens one automation lane with the last touched parameter displayed. So instead of selecting the parameter from the automation list, all you have to do is touch it (assuming the plugin is open) and it will change that automation lane to that parameter automatically. Using “Show Used Automation (Selected Tracks)” will open a separate lane for each parameter that’s automated.

It seems like a convenient feature to work quickly, but I think they should still have the automated parameters always showing in the list as they use to as well, leaving it up to the user to decide how to make a selection. There really was no good reason to remove it from the app.

Thanks for the workaround idea. As of course you know, It still takes leagues more time as opposed to just clicking once and instantly seeing/selecting any of the last of the first 15 automated parameters. Otherwise I need to open the corresponding plugin/parameter, find the parameter I want to adjust, hit it on the plugin, go back to the automation section, etc., every single time.

Strong agree that they need to restore the former behavior, in totality, when Last Touched is disabled. Then everyone wins. Until then I’m unfortunately back on C14 (for this and a couple other crucial reasons) and can’t use other great new C15 features.

I cannot believe more users aren’t complaining about this issue. This is absolute madness! on top of that… the automation parameter name doesn’t tell you the insert number! If I have a group with 5 different EQs automating it won’t say (insert 2 - Band 4 gain) it’ll just say (gain) which leaves my brain wondering which EQ is automated. lets bump this till the cows come home.

Bump…I’m feeling frustrated that no one will acknowledge this. And of course frustrated that I can’t use C15 mostly because of this (yes, it’s that important, among a couple other things).

I don’t mind saying it over and over again: All that needs to happen is that when you disable the new Last Touched feature, it returns to the automation parameter selection behaving exactly how it did in earlier versions.

Bump…There is a barbaric workaround I figured out to get me by for now haha. Set two key commands for-(show all automation on selected track) “A” and (show all automations for specific plugin) as “shift A”…if you’re looking to automate a certain plugin parameter among MANY parameters and MANY plugins and don’t know what’s what. Quickly manually bypass and reenable the plugin of choice you want to automate. The bypass automation lane for that plugin will appear at the top of the lane now. Select it and hit “shift-A” now you will only see the parameters from that plugin - making the view less cluttered and easier to navigate. :ok_hand:t2:Not a solution but it’s getting me through the work days at the moment.

Thanks Alexander. That’s barbaric indeed, hahaha, but it does work for what you’re talking about, I appreciate the post!

Unfortunately, staying on C14 until this and a couple other little things are remedied is still much faster for my workflow.

I think it has to be a failure and not a thoughtful decision. If you touch the value of the parameter that you have automated it will appear at the top, and the problem is that it will only do it with 5 parameters and also when you reopen the project they will no longer be.

Another thing that makes me think that it is a failure is that if you press the parameter 2 times by pressing cmd Cubase crashes.
