C7 And Kontakt - Volume Settings

Hi everyone

Would appreciate some advice please.

If I want to open an instance of Kontakt under VST Instruments and then add multiple midi tracks to which I route a variety of Kontakt’s internal instruments e.g. Grand Piano, Synths etc. what is the best option for volume control?

I normally get a Kontakt track in the mixer along with the midi tracks. and I wondered what the relationship between the two is i.e. do I keep the Kontakt master track at 0db and then use either the faders on the individual tracks or the volume sliders on Kontakt’s internal instruments to adjust volume?

When I initially set up as above, the midi tracks play at a decent volume but the faders are always at zero…as soon as I move one of them the volume for that instrument drops instantly but then responds the fader.

As always many thanks in advance for any help.

You can do it either way - the net result of the audio will be exactly the same. It’s probably easier to use Cubase’s MIDI faders and leave the Kontakt sliders alone.

You can set how the Kontakt instrument responds to MIDI faders by opening K’s wrench and setting MIDI Controller Range in the Instr. Options. Keep in mind this is instr-specific; it is not global.

Cheers.

Thanks Jeff…that’s really helpful and much appreciated.
