Cadenza - How to manage taceted players

Hi all,

I have a section in a concerto where there’s an extended “cadenza-ish” section. I say “ish” because it’s not entirely solo, as you can see in the screen shot, at a couple of points, percussion is added to the solo instrument.

For the instruments that are entirely tacet, I’d love to simply the bar rest. I know that I can locally hide the metronome marks in the parts, but I can’t hide the gradual tempi (rit., accel.,etc).

I’m guessing the best way to solve that problem is to write those gradual tempi as text and attach only to the staff(s) where it’s necessary. Also with the fermatas, I’m assuming it would be best to just add those to the part as a playing technique and not as a Hold.

I should add that I also need to use the playback function as I share audio with colleagues. So, the text idea for gradual tempi, makes for extra steps,

Basically, there used to be this plug-in in Finale where you could turn any large section into a multibar rest now matter if there was system text, fermatas, etc. I guess I’m kind of looking for a similar solution.

Anyone solved this problem in a more elegant wa

Please reconsider your request.
As the player looking at my sheet music, listening to the soloist playing and watching the conductor, it really would help to have all these indications on my sheet.

Also, if the conductor says, let’s start from the second fermata, I would have no idea what they are talking about.

Hmm. Interesting. A lot of it won’t be conducted, at least the parts that don’t have percussion accompanying, but I can definitely see your point. Thanks for the response
