I like the “filter” effect at 754Hz but would like for it to be set to 279Hz at a specific location in the score. Is there a reliable way to calculate the correct value within the 0 to 127 range?
A part of me believes that there is a way to do this using some kind of mathematical equation.
My current solution for this is simple trial and error. I recognize that using an add-on switch with the “natural” switch will prove to be useful, but you still ultimately have to find the CC value that captures what you want to hear.
Aside from not being able to use fractions in CC, I would bet that the relationship isn’t linear. It might be based on a logarithmic frequency scale where each octave has the same number of CC. Or based on the character of some well known filter design?
Anyway, recording the CC change with a midi controller is probably the fastest way, letting your fingers and ear be the initial guide, and adjust if needed using the key editor. But if it actually has to be some exact settings, I think I would create two different patches.
