[CAN-12379] Cubase 9.5 not showing recording waveforms

Just took advice and set my record to 24 bit and wav forms show up. I should not be recording at 16 bit anyway.

Have you tried the Steinberg suggested fix as outlined above? Record at 24bit. They’ve already confirmed that it’s a bug.

Now record in 24 bit, and waveform show up, thanks for the reply

This worked for me also. Thank you

Hi all -

I had this also -

Following advice on the forum - I zoomed in on the Audio in the Edit Window, and there it was, waveform

Thank you

I’ve been having the same issue exactly. Record audio - no waveform, unless I zoom in tight horizontally. The upper left zoom tool has nothing to do with it.
I’m going to try the preferences trick to see if that works.

32bit float works for me, we’re you guys having the missing waveform issue really recoding in 16bit ?

:frowning:

On the PC showing the issue yes, I’m afraid I was and I do feel a bit dumb. I assume it was due to my templates being based on a very old one? It certainly wasn’t a conscious decision and I can’t think of another logical explanation.

On the other hand and for newer users in particular, the situation is not helped by the fact that as far as I can see all the Steinberg Templates have the project set at 16 bit recording?

Ahh yes the templates, they are the first thing I delete.
Even when I make my own, they never really fit the next project

I have exactly the same issue in C9.5, which is a pain as, like most of you, I need to monitor the recording wave forms. I hope Steinberg will fix this soon.

EDIT: It is a known issue and Steinberg is working on it:
https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/115001765010-Cubase-9-5-waveforms-are-missing

I tried their tricks with no luck, so hopefully an update is coming soon. I don’t have the problem on C9 that thankfully I kept on my computer lol
Good luck Steinberg team in fixing this, please let us know !

You switched to 24bit (or 32bit ) recording and still got the issue?
Sounds like a different problem then as this has solved it for everyone else I think.

– Record using 24-bit resolution (Project → Project Setup)

Can confirm this work-around. Thanks for sharing.

To sum up my issues:

  1. No waveform is displayed during recording
  2. No waveform will be displayed (after recording) unless you zoom in some factor.

No 1 is annoying but I can live with it, as I am not able to do anything with the waveform during recording anyway.
No 2 is a real issue, as I often zoom out to go to certain spots in the waveform. When zoomed in too much requires scrolling all the way to the desired area which takes unnecessary extra time.

I deleted my previous Preferences folder: %APPDATA%/Steinberg/Cubase LE AI Elements 9.5_64 so Cubase Elements 9.5 could create a new one.
This didn’t solve any issue.

The work-around will solve issue 2, as I am now able to see a waveform at any zoom level.

Cheers,

Dave

Sounds like I have the same issue,I’ve recently updated from Artist 9 to 9.5 and managed to record 2 guitar tracks no problem, tried a 3rd audio track after recording bass, keyboards in Halion then Drums with Groove Agent 4…no wave form but sound through monitors and there is a track recorded.
I’ll check it out!

I’m sure the reason I did not see this issue initially is that I already had my resolution set to 24bit…

Al

Very possibly…although it doesn’t show as an issue on all systems even if you’re somehow using 16bit recording (only on one of mine). I’m not sure why I was on 16bit but I’m blaming the Cubase Templates . I have older projects that were 24bit recording but I know I rebuilt my templates at some point in the last year and that seems to have been when I went over to 16bit (without realising until now). If the Steinberg Templates were set up for 24bit recording by default it would possibly have avoided this issue for most if not all of us…

So the final work around for missing waveforms until CB 9.5.10 is issued is this…

Hi. Has there been an update on this yet? I’m having the same issue.

Yes. Try 9.5.10 update to fix this.
Go to your Steinberg account asap…

Hello everyone, a newbie here based in the UK using Cubase Elements 8. I recently experienced this disappearing wavelength image problem too, and it was doing my head in. After finishing recording some vocal tracks and ‘playing around’ with them, several wavelength images disappeared all of a sudden, showing just a thin line. The audio was there and sounded fine, and the correct image appeared when zooming in or opening up the event. Still it bothered me, so i tried the various suggested fixes like deleting peak files & folders, but to no avail. Then by chance and out of desperation, i tried one more thing and it worked; now all is fixed and my project looks perfect again

And the fix was - simply add some gain (an infintessimal amount will do it) to the offending event (Audio menu - Process - Gain) and hey presto, the proper wavelength image perfectly reappears, and it stays there  You can even undo the add gain if you so wish, and the reconstructed image stays.

Hope this helps some of you reclaim your sanity as it did me

This is not the same issue if you’re on Elements 8 as the problem listed here specifically started with the 9.5 version. Glad you got your issue sorted though!
