Using Dorico Elements 6, I can specify that a default barline in a metered flow is the tick barline, but if using an unmetered (no time signature) flow, I cannot add a tick barline using the popover tool. Am I doing something wrong? Is this intended? Is there a workaround?
In a metered flow with the tick barline as the default barline type, select a tick barline and type Shift-M open Return, then select and copy that tick barline:
In an unmetered flow with the tick barline as the default barline type, select where you want to add a tick barline and paste the barline from the metered flow:

No problem: the chart you printed shows that tick or thick, the type is only allowed in Pro. 
thank you, it seems like such an odd thing to paywall. You can use a tick barline, but ONLY in metered flows or by copy and pasting them around. The convenience of inputting these already existing symbols in the popover is only for the pro edition.
I guess it’s an oversight that through this workaround the tick can be used, or to much trouble to make it version aware. Don’t be surprised this workaround stops working after some update.
When selecting what’s a Pro feature, and what’s not, some seemingly arbitrary decisions are unavoidable, I think.
