Let’s say I have the same note on multiple events selected across multiple tracks in one Piano Roll Edit window. I have Part Editing Mode set to All Parts. When I change the velocities of all the MIDI parts, only the active part in the Piano Roll window changes…none of the ones under it that are also selected change. So I need to activate every layer one-by-one and edit their velocities instead of being able to scale them all at once.
Is there any way to do this, or is it just slowly, layer-by-layer?
Yes, although you will only be able see the changes while they are being made on the selected Part. Instead of using the Velocity Lane to make your adjustments use the Velocity field on the Info Line. This will adjust all the Selected Events regardless of the Active Part.
The bummer is that you can’t do scaling or ramp-ups/ramp-downs when you use the Velocity field on the Info Line. It would be super useful and time-saving to be able to use those for this.
For calculated changes to multiple MIDI events the Project Logical Editor (PLE) may be the other way of doing such a thing. If it’s a very regular activity, then making key commands to execute such PLE scripts might be one way to get there a bit faster.
If Part Editing Mode is set to All Parts, then this will work across all selected parts/tracks. And the best part(no pun intended ) is that it’s the same command to change the Audio Event Volume as well. So a nice analogous between the MIDI and Audio realm.
The ramp up/downs are still not applicable here. Only relative value change, but I still find this super helpful.
Good idea, thank you. I think for me there’s rarely a set level and is a lot faster to do manually, but this is a good band-aid in certain situations for sure.
A thing I’ve been doing lately is to use a Shared MIDI Part on the different Tracks instead of using different Parts on each Track and opening multiple Parts in the Editor. To make this work you need to set the Tracks to different Channel numbers. When doing this its particularly useful to have LE Presets which for example Select all the Notes on MIDI channel 2. This approach lets you use the scaling tools in the Velocity Lane simultaneously across multiple Tracks.
