Hi guys,
I worked with Finale for last 12 years. There was a menu where I could choose to export a PDF file of the score that I wrote.
Is there any possibility to have a PDF?
Thank you very much!
Welcome to the Forum,
Of course you can create a PDF from your score, but not as an export, instead you go to the Print tab and chose the Graphics mode
Alternatively you can also print using some PDF printer drivers, but as far as I know the Graphics print is the way to go.
Thank you so much, Juergen!
If you’re on a Mac (not sure if it applies to windows) in the print dialog go to the bottom where it says Print … it opens a new window, at the bottom there is a PDF button where you can open in preview… save as Pdf etc. You can save to various locations and add new locations. I use forScore so I save mine to I cloud so I can download them and also send in mail is quite useful if I need to send parts to others. Hope this is of some use.
Kevin, while this is possible in Dorico for Mac, it’s almost never a good idea: the Graphics tab at the top right corner of Print mode does a better job, in that it embeds fonts correctly, exports at the page size specified in Layout Options, can have file naming recipes that automatically save PDFs of all your part layouts simultaneously with useful names etc.
Yes I’ve tried that but when I hit export I’ve no idea where my file goes to ?
Sorry just realised there was a file path. But I think I’ll stick with what I find works for me.
I would strongly recommend you to use Dorico’s built-in PDF export. Font embedding and colour handling both work more reliably when using Dorico’s built-in PDF export.
In all the years I’ve used this method I’ve never encountered a font problem or any other problem. I write a chart, use the print dialog with a simple drop down menu it exports the chart to where I can find it, then I can easily download into forScore and I have a pdf copy in ICloud. If I use the export method I have to find the destination folder where I would like it to be then export it there. These are just lead sheets so that’s why I think it works for me.
