I know there is a place in layout preferences where I can set the number of bars for a layout, but is there a way to just select one stave in the middle of a piece and make it so that it casts off one fewer bars? I need to squeeze one section in the middle of a piece for readability. Thanks!
In Dorico 4 there is the new option in Engrave to move bars between systems…
Otherwise just use system breaks as previously.

You can brute force it with system breaks. Or, you can add note spacing changes to tighten up the spacing for that section then reset the spacing after.
