I have a project with a four-part female choir (S1, S2, A1 and A2) and a string quartet. In some flows, the altos are not divided. How can I avoid the label A1 for the altos? I would like it to be just A. In other flows with two alto parts, A1 and A2 is of course necessary.
I could create this by creating a third alto, edit the name by adding a space before the name, so Dorico doesn’t number that name, and use that instrument instead of both regular Altos on the flows that only has one.
But there may be better ways.
