I purchased Halion 3 many years ago but have not used it for a long while & it is no longer on my latest computer.
Can I use this as an upgrade path to Halion 7?
I was about to purchase H7 at 50% off but noticed that the upgrade from H3 is almost £70 cheaper.
What happens once I purchase the upgrade? Does it look for an H3 installation or do I have to prove it with an elicenser?
Yes, you can update your HALion 3 license to HALion 7. When you enter the Download Access Code, the licensing system checks if there’s an eligible license present in your Steinberg account – which is the case according to your screenshot. So, it should be sufficient to buy the update from HALion 3 and redeem the code sent to you afterwards. The new license will then show up in the Activation Manager.
There are no local checks for an eLicenser or a previous installation required.

Very good timing, the Halion Update is 50% off right now.
For those who have not described to Steinberg’s newsletter: The “Cyber Deals” are on as of today until the 8th of December 2025.
Enjoy

You will also be able to use HALion 3 libraries with HALion 7.
This week I had a moment of nostalgia that I want to share with you.
This nostalgia is linked to HALion 3 which, in my opinion, had a high quality sound library and which unfortunately was never integrated into the other versions. This is probably due to the fact that it was produced by Wizoo which at the time was bought by Avid, I believe…
So, from version 4, this bank was no longer available unless you had version 3.
Still, HALion 3 had an extraordinary library. However, for those who have …
