I heard LE6 is free for the asking, but was unable to verify. Does anyone know this to be factual? If it is, is it much of an upgrade to LE5? Would it be easy?

LE versions are free in that they are OEM software that comes free with dedicated hardware. They can only be upgraded to at least an Elements version. Going to LE 6 from LE 5 is not an upgrade at all, and usually not abailable.
Anyway you need to contact the manufacturer of the hardware you got your version of LE with, if they provide you with LE 6.
