I’m trying to do a podcast, but I am having issues hearing myself speak, even with the Direct Monitor turned on. Also, there is a lot of static when I turn up the volume while listening to the playback. Could these these issues be attributed to the headphones?

Unless they are broken I very much doubt it
but if you try a different set, of phones that might answer your question.
In any event, even if the phones are fine, IMHO I cannot think of a worse piece of gear
than those white Apple earbuds.
I say: get a decent set of phones.
