Can no longer place harp pedals -- Dorico 6.2.30

I’ve never had trouble with harp pedals in previous charts, but in this new one, I can’t seem to get the pedal settings – notes or diagram – to click into the score. I can define the specifics un Playing Techniques without problems and the icon shows up and moves to the harp stave, but clicking has no effect.

I’ve opened previous scores and created new harp players and can’t enter pedal markings in those scores either, so my problem appears to be global. Is there some setting somewhere that I somehow tweeked that’s keeping me from entering the actual pedal markings into my score?

There is a setting in Layout Options > Players which is disabled by default for the score and enabled for the (harp) part.

Ah, just as I suspected! The default setting seems (to me) to be a bit counterintuitive, but I suspect there were good reasons for that position. More importantly, thank you!!

…but now I seem to be having bigger problems. They started with trying to figure out how to enter multi-note tremolos in a marimba staff in 3/4 time. Dorico is now VERY unhappy and is not letting me enter ANY new notes in ANY staff. It’s a reproducible problem since, after quitting and restarting Dorico, everything works fine UNTIL I enter two dotted quarters, go to the Repeats setting, and click on one of the two-note tremolo markings. That locks me out of all functionality and I have to restart Dorico, and I’ve repeated this sequence three times to be sure.
Ugh…I’m used to Dorico behaving perfectly (which I love)…

Here’s the file…I don’t know enough about the deep debugging of Dorico problems to know where to turn for this issue.

There was no problem to enter the tremolo in the Marimba staff, however the dotted quarter notes must be fixed with Force Duration

I thought I had both fixed with Force Duration…but I tried again…I entered the two dotted quarters and chose a 2-note tremolo pattern (which did enter correctly)…byt then I was again once again locked out of Dorico.

So I tried the same thing with your file…and got exactly the same results…so clearly the problem is on my side. I’ve restarted my laptop a couple of times and quite Dorico 7 or 8 times to no avail. I certainly haven’t had any problems even vaguely resembling this until today and I use Dorico and my standard audio setup several hours virtually every day.

Ironically, I’m set to buy a new Mac Mini at the end of next week. Maybe I’m getting an Early Warning Motivational Message from the Apple deep state…

Any suggestions?

I am continuing to experience a complete Dorico “lockout” after placing a single harp pedal marking. I have rebooted my laptop x3 with no change in the behavior: everything works fine until I put in a harp pedal mark. It is followed by a lockout that is corrected by quitting Dorico and restarting. Any ideas from the Forum?
Thanks in advance!!

For any problems involving computer misbehaviour, you should upload your diagnostics (Help>Create Diagnostic Report) so someone from the team can help you.

Thank you. Done!

Do I need to send my diagnostic file to a specific address, or just assume that it will be put in the appropriate queue based on being posted here?

Post here. Members of the Development Team read every post.

Thanks. That’s what I figured. This problem has not kept me from working…only from doing certain things with certain instruments (e.g. harp, marimba, etc.). I’m sure there are much more pressing problems in the queue.

Hi Charlie, there’s only one crashlog in your Dorico Diagnostics file, which looks to be something to do with plugging in a new audio device rather than anything to do with harp pedals. Could you try triggering the problem with the harp pedalling (causing Dorico to crash), then restart and capture the Dorico Diagnostics immediately after the restart? Then post the file here and we can take a look. Thanks
