updated to 5.1.81, started it, using NotePerformer, could not connect to audio engine, shut down. Now I can not start Dorico at all. Nothing happens when clicking Dorico.exe. What happened?
As a first step, did you reboot?
aha! didn’t realize that was necessary. did it, now it works, thanks.
I’d grant arco with the solution, not your answer
Go and read your first post, you’ll see it makes no sense like this
oh boy, sorry for wrong forum etiquette … (I assumed marking the last solution would end the thread, ah well, my bad …)
No problem at all!
BTW, I do not know if it is absolutely necessary to reboot. From reports here in other threads, a reboot might fix a font problem… and various other problems as it has in your case.
I cannot remember if there is an official recommendation to reboot after installing or not.
Anyway glad you have it fixed and that you asked here about the problem.
Sometimes a reboot after installation is necessary for the fonts. Dorico’s screen painting might get confused and garbled up completely. That’s where a reboot helps.
But also sometimes zombied audio engine processes may stay behind, then also Dorico will not be able to start. One can kill such zombie processes via the TaskManager or with the sledgehammer, i.e. a reboot.
