Can real drum hits be used to trigger samples

I recorded some acoustic drums on a song decades ago, and with Spectralayers, I split the parts pretty well, Can I use the track hits to individually trigger better sounding sampled drums to play the same rhythms. If so how?

Simple way - Use a drum replacement plugin.

Less simple way - Do audio to midi with variaudio then use the midi to trigger a drum plugin….you’ll need to edit the note to the correct one.

Hi,

You can easily transfer the Hits to the MIDI Notes in the Sample Editor. Then you can let these MIDI Notes to trigger whatever you need to.

I was trying to follow a video on this and I made hitpoints that include all the kick notes and then I extract to midi but there is nothing there. What is wrong.

Hi,

Click on the OK button. This will create a new MIDI Track with MIDI Note C1, which is the trigger for you.

I tried several times. The track is the midi 01 above the sample window and nothing on it.

then tried the vari-audio suggestion but it finds almost no notes.

Hi,

Have you tried to double-click on the MIDI Part to open the Key Editor? Do you see C1 MIDI Notes? Could you attach a screenshot, please?

VariAudio is not the job for this,

Martin has you in the right direction.

Set your left and right locators to the area you want the MIDI event, this might not be necessary.

‘Create New MIDI Track’

Try doing it twice if it doesn’t work the first time.

So I started over again today and this time I got the midi file. I did set the locators. Not sure if that was so yesterday. I then proceeded with this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn9pj3TJFoI

I guess I will need to learn more about Groove agent, and is SE simplified, lacking some aspects? I couldn’t find the kick I had yesterday and just selected one kit and experimented with some others. I accepted one for now and went on with the video. I didn’t get the screen showing the drums set as in the video and proceeding anyway I got to the part where he said polarity is important and I don’t see this in my window to reverse it (7.04’). Is that because this is SE? I also didn’t see the mixer, but again, different version?

Manual mentions it once, but I don’t see where to show.

It’s here:

I’m guessing you didn’t find it because the guy in the video has their Channel EQ to show sliders rather than knobs(?).

I continued on and got a very satisfying kick sound that substitutes perfectly when I replaced with a sample kick after going through a number and choosing.

I went on to do likewise with the snare. Initially I again got no midi but after more tries I did get the midi track. More problematic somewhat because Spectralayers did not separate a cowbell that occassionally is present. but I just wanted to try substituting while the procedure is fresh in mind. I went through a bunch of snares and rated about a dozen as possiblities, created a sample track and dropped in. I then moved the midi track to it and it sounds totally different, much more reverb and so I tried another and it sound the same. I tried starting over with a new sampler track but I am still getting a sound that doesn’t seem to change as the kick did when I selected different ones. I don’t hear what I hear when I click the sample in the media box. What could I have done wrong? Aslo if I do highat would it know if it is open or closed?
