I don’t think it’s really changed from N14, am assuming it’s similar if not exactly the same in N15.
I’m coming from Cubase and have been looking for a video with in depth explanation of how VCAs work in real-life action (not just words) in Nuendo, as well as all of the commands and options for flattening the automation, etc. I know it’s in the manual and I understand the basics of how it works vs. Cubase, but I would do much better seeing people actually do it/demonstrate, and the manual is a bit obtuse for me. EDIT: I’ve been looking and can’t seem to find a video like I’m asking about, for Nuendo specifically.
Any help would be appreciated.
Honest and real “real-world” advice? Don’t use them. They are broken and have never worked properly since their introduction. Unless you know all the pitfalls it’s easy to get into a situation where they can destroy a mix without any chance of undoing. It’s easier to avoid them.

To my knowledge the only problem in Nuendo is that you need to use one automation point per track. Outside of that they work as advertised. Unless I’m forgetting something else.
Well, is there something specific you want to know or? Generally I find for a lot of things you really learn best by just “doing” it.

Nested VCAs can produce unwanted track offsets, VCA won’t load fader in correct place if saved under certain conditions, tempo change affects VCA level…that’s a few off the top of my head but really they just don’t work as advertised.
How?
That’s what the automation point addresses as far as I know.
So, I just tried it and I don’t see a level change at all. What I do see is that if the VCA is set to musical time base then changing the tempo moves VCA automation. And of course if the VCA is locked to linear but for example a controlled audio track is set to musical then the events on the timeline shift according to changed tempo.
Is that what you are talking about?
Also unsure about the nested VCA problem. What does that refer to?
Specifically for Nuendo 15?
I used them a LOT of Cubase and quite liked them. I knew the couple of pitfalls and knew how to avoid them there, but they’re a different beast in Nuendo.
Everything involved with them, ideally. I tried using them in Nuendo as I do in Cubase and it was a very different experience in some ways.
Just “doing” is usually the best way, agreed; but often there are plenty of things I wouldn’t have known without someone showing me.
I understand. For me, the way I use them, it’s kind of second-nature, so I don’t even really know I’d put in a video if it was me making one. I guess it’s really just another way of controlling level of other faders the way I look at it.
If I find a video about it I’ll let you know.

If I had the motivation for it
, I’d make a video walkthrough of some scenarios (subgrouping and not) here with my console vca automation and one of the jh24s…..as an illustration (hands-on) as to where this all comes from historically….
then, with the same track loaded on Nuendo and the console/tape out of the loop, I’d do a “and here’s how to do that and more on Nuendo”.

Thanks, but I meant I can’t find the kind of video I’m asking for.
