Can this shape-note hymnal be replicated in Dorico?

I’m writing on behalf of a publisher that has a great deal of material in Finale and is considering switching to Dorico. They want to know if this can be precisely replicated in Dorico, such that individual hymns could be updated as needed with no discernable difference in style or layout.

The fonts are of course no problem, as well as the line thicknesses. The accidentals and clefs are a little odd, but should be no problem. I was also happy to see that the shortened bracket is easily replicated as well.

The challenge is the shape-note set. It is similar to Aiken 7-shape, but it’s not the same. In fact, it was a custom design that they commissioned decades ago and have used ever since.

Can the Aiken 7-shape notehead set itself be modified? I don’t see that it’s directly exposed in the notehead set editor… it seems that shape notes are “under the hood.”

I’d appreciate any help on this, thanks!

Daniel’s the expert here, but I think the note mapping for shape notes is exposed in the Notehead Set Editor… I think that’s what the “Degree” spinbox does in the lower half of the dialog, for sets that are of type “Scale Degree”. You can’t create a wholly new set of that type, I think, but it seems to work if you duplicate an existing one.

Aha! Yes that looks like the ticket.

I don’t have much experience in the notehead set editor, but this looks pretty clear that it can be done globally. Thanks!!

Wow, Souvenir! Haven’t seen that in a hymnal before.
