Can You Easily Set The Volume For Different Track Parts From the Mixer?

When mixing, a common approach is to start setting the levels for the chorus and then use automation to set the levels for the other parts of the track.

Doing the first part has a great workflow in Cubase with the mixer, but then it kind of falls apart since have to go to each track and fiddle with the volume envelope.

Is there already a better way to do this?

What I imagine is setting the the locators to the start and end of the first verse, for example.

After that, all fader moves in the mixer get translated to automation for that whole section without affecting any other parts of the track.

That way, you can easily set the volumes for each part of my track from the mixer and don’t have to deal with automation curves.

Basically, what I want is that the value from when I let go of the fader gets written to the whole section.

This is kind of possible when using auto-latch mode, but this doesn’t seem to survive when the loop starts from the beginning. So I’d have to go in and delete the old automation points manually until only the last one is left.

You should go to the automation section in the manual and read up on all of it. Pay special attention to the Automation Panel and the options there.

Short version is that if you are IN the range (“loop”) where you want to change values you should be able to use the “Fill” setting “Loop” to cover that range once you let go of the fader (in either Touch or Latch, probably). You may have to ‘lock’ the “Loop” setting by clicking it twice to make that work the way you want.

Note: I work in Nuendo and I do sound-to-picture and my workflow is a bit different and the options in Nuendo are also a bit different.

The combination Touch and Loop should lead to the desired behavior:

Click Loop twice to lock it (prevents from being switched off after Stop).

I looked at the manual, but I guess I wasn’t thorough enough. Thank you for the explanation. That pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. Yay. :tada:

Thank you for the picture. That made finding the option much easier.

Now, the only issue I have is that the Loop option gets disabled every time I stop playback. I would like to keep it on until I choose to turn it off again or until I turn of Write mode. Edit: If you click the Loop button twice, there’s an option to lock it. Perfect
