Can you Select like this ....?

There are lots of times where I want to select all of the audio clips in a lane that are currently playing (not behind the comp) for processing or another operation.

The only way I can do this is by carefully clicking on each segment of audio on the track that is meant to be playing in the comp while holding shift down.

Is there an automatic way to do this or is this select possibilty not there

Preference “Auto Select Events Under Cursor”.

HI Dietz

I dont think this function is what I need.

I’ll explain further:

If I have lanes and lanes of edits of a vocal on a track I want to be able to select the clips on the track that are at the front of the edit (selected as the final edit) but leave any hidden lanes underneath alone. This is so that I can select the master vocal comp to perform an operation and not on the many underlying lane clips.

If you close the lanes view you’re presented with the resulting comp. Then you can select all of the clips in one go. You’re talking about using DOP, right?

I believe the only way to do this would be to “create versions from lanes”. The lanes will get separated each into its own track version, so you can just select everything from the top version.
Whenever you’re done, if you want everything back to the same version, just “create lanes from versions” and you’re back to where you started.

Yes selecting only the master comp clips to do a DOP operation would be a perfect use-case. But if you close lanes and select all on a track or draw a marquee around all clips on a track it will selct the clips that are playing and all clips behind in lanes that are not playing.

At present I have to shuft click and carefully click on all wanted segments of audio. On certain vocal tracks there can be a lot of cuts (for sibilance edits and comps).

Yes create a new version from lanes might be workaround - but a bit clunky - as is shift and click all segments - but would anyone else here find a ‘select all in front’ feature useful for times like these?

Perhaps:

1 - close lanes

2 - create new track version (just in case…)

3 - bounce the comp to a new file

4 - apply DOP.

Don’t know if the end result is a single file or a collection of clips; in the former case this works quite well.

And about DOP applying to all clips in all lanes, irrespective of them being part of the final comp, I believe you have a preference called “treat muted events as deleted”, that will prevent that behaviour.

I don’t work this way anymore but there used to be a function called “delete overlaps” that did this maybe it still exists?
