Some years ago I bought Dorico Pro 2 Crossgrade with access code: (REMOVED). I can’t remember if I ever authorised it. The P/N is (REMOVED) plus a UPC, EAN and PTN (not sure what they are now!). Last week I took advantage of the upgrade offer to Dorico Pro 5 and it seems to be up and running (excellent I might add). I have an Activation Code (REMOVED) which has been filled in automatically in the eLicenser Control Center, but when I click ‘continue’ it says I have no license to upgrade! Hence no authorisation although I have tried many times. My original Dorico Pro 2 came with a USB ‘dongle’ which will not register at all on any of my macs. Who can I speak to or email please? Any help will be gratefully received. Many thanks! Allan
I strongly advise you not to put your licence codes on a public forum…
Thanks mate. Appreciate the advice and deletions.
Welcome to the Forum.
Dorico 5 doesn’t use the eLicenser anymore, the USB Stick is basically obsolete now.
Your license is activated via the Activation Manager, a tool that has been installed together with the Download Assistent.
You can find all information about the Steinberg Licensing Here.
Welcome in the Forum Allan!
If I understood correctly, you intend upgrading from D2 Pro to D5 Pro.
In this case the USB Dongle is fundamental, because it has your D2 license and it’s the only proof of the upgrading.
The process is quite simple:
- You must be connected to the Internet.
- To start you have to download and install D5. Use Steinberg Download Assistant which must be installed and running as well.
- Besides you have to download, install and run Steinberg Activation Manager.
- Have your USB connected. eLC will be certainly updated, because you started and run SDA. Start your eLC Control Center.
- Now run SDA and insert your license code in Enter your Download Access Code. SDA will ask to choose your D2 license in the eLC control center to allow your upgrade. You are OK now: you have your D5 license and in eLC the D2 license results upgraded, because you should be still able to run D2 if you wish.
- Now you can start SAM and activate your D5 license.
Obviously point 2. can be done also after 6.!
I tried all this by memory and I hope I didn’t forget anything important…
Anyway all this is here: https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/4414539809426-Steinberg-Licensing-Upgrades-from-eLicenser-based-products
That’s right. To perform the update, the license of Dorico 2 must be present on the dongle. However, it was also possible to put the license on a Soft-eLicenser. If that’s the case, it must first be moved to the dongle (using the eLCC). Afterwards, it should be possible to update it to Dorico 5.
Thanks Martin! You are right, I just didn’t mention the soft licenser because Allan has the USB, or so I understood.
I know the official instructions are absolutely complete, I tried to remember the important steps because I didn’t want to leave Allan with the impression his USB was not important.
Anyway, if Allan cannot succeed after following the instructions, for sure he will find someone of the Team that will help him.
Frankly the situation of the D2 version isn’t clear. I didn’t understand if D2 ever worked or not. And this is the first issue to solve.
Yes, absolutely. I had no intention of pointing out an omission in your helpful summary. Since Alan wrote that the eLCC doesn’t show an upgradable license on the dongle, I thought it might be worth mentioning other places, i.e. other computers with Soft-eLicensers on it, where to look for the old D2 license.
You are right Martin, and your post was perfect. My doubts are about the functionality of the D2 version, because
doesn’t sound good…
Thanks everyone for your help and advice. Just to recap: I’ve tried all these ideas, but none of them work. The USB stick isn’t recognised at all and nothing upgradable is showing on the SAM or eLicenser Control Center. I should also point out that I don’t think I ever used the original Pro 2 as, at the time, I was very busy with a string of orchestrations/arrangements that I was doing on Sibelius 6 and didn’t have the time to start learning a new programme. I still use Sib6, but only on my old Mac Pro as my new equipment with the latest MacOS obviously won’t run it, hence my need to now convert to Dorico. I’ve opened a Support Ticket with Steinberg; so hopefully that will help too. With much appreciation. Allan
To clarify one point: you don’t need to move your eLicenser license from the Soft-eLicenser onto the USB-eLicenser in order to update to Dorico 5.
@AllanWilsonMusic, since you’ve opened a ticket with our support team I won’t intervene, but if you’ve not heard anything within a few days, let me know your ticket number and I’ll chase it up with my colleagues in the support team.
I wrote about the USB, and not the Soft-eLicenser, only because Allan cited his dongle.
Anyway the fact D2 never worked reinforces my suspect about the basic issue, before that of upgrading.
