I added one staff below lead sheet single staff. I cannot make the barline go through both staffs. The Notation option already has it set for what I want, but nothing happens.
Hi @wccook2, and welcome to the Forum.
You can drag (prolong or shorten) the barlines in engrave mode, or select the control point and use alt+down arrow:
But may be there are some other circumstances, depending on your setup: how did you added a staff, and for what usage? Sharing the Project is the fastest way to have precise and specific help.
Thank you. That method did work. But I wonder if starting with one staff in a lead sheet and then adding “1 staff Below” does not allow me to do the barline joining through both staffs.
@wccook2
I don’t quite understand about what are you wondering about? I showed you how to do this, in my previous post.
A more comprehensive explanation: if you use the Lead instrument, if you go in menu Library/Instruments… and choose/search for Lead, you can see that this instrument is assigned to be a Vocal Staff: vocal staves are by default breaking the barlines to avoid collisions with lyrics:
If you want to use conjuncted barlines without needing to manually prolonging them, use another instrument (not a vocal staff one) to start with.
Or you can edit the instrument definition for the Lead, clicking on the three little dots, near the instrument name in Setup mode, and uncheck the Vocal staff checkmark):
And again:
If you’re adding another staff to represent eg another singer, or a separate part, you should add another player with the required instrument. You can hide empty staves in Layout Options > Vertical Spacing, so you only see both staves in systems where both staves have content.
