I am connected by MIDI with my regular keyboard, am in Write mode, clicked in on the rest as told to, but playing keys gives me nothing. I cannot find where the program recognizes the existence of input instruments, so I cannot check that aspect. I can create notes with my mouse, but not with the Yamaha CP33 keyboard.

At startup Dorico tries to open any MIDI port it can find, though we don’t have any indication box of what actually got detected.
Since Dorico 3 in the very right bottom corner of Dorico’s window is a little indicator that lights up green whenever, whatever MIDI message arrives. When you play your CP33, do you see some blinking in that corner?
If not, please do ‘Help > Create Diagnostics Report’ which silently creates a zip file on your desktop. Please attach that here. Thanks
When you click on that rest, are you single-clicking or double-clicking? To engage note input you need to double-click.
