Cannot save my window setup in WL12. If I say “save current layout as default” it does not save it as default. Is there some “button” or check box I have to push to get it to remember my screen layout? When I come back to WL after closing it the window is “partially” correct but not 100%. This started about 2 months ago. I have just been resetting it but there has to be a better way. Thanks in advance.
What do you mean?
Sometimes when I reopen WL12 the window is exactly like I saved it. Sometimes it goes back to a previous setup or in some cases goes back to the way WL12 came before I redid the window. This is in the editing window. Why would WL go back to a previous window setup? It makes no sense. This never happened in any other WL version. It is both confusing and upsetting and takes time to redo the window. FWIW
Personally, I have not experienced this (Windows 10 current build WL 12.0.50) so have no idea what’s going on.
Could I suggest you save the workspace as a name … for example ‘Default’. Then once saved, save it a second time as Save Current Layout as Default.
The idea is that you can recall either of these if there is a glitch.
I am on the same Windows version. Good idea about saving. Thanks much!
Yesterday I opened WL and the ribbon was gone. I know now that there is a way to collapse the ribbon but why would WL do that on its own? There is some kind of "randomization"of the editing window going on between the time I close WL and reopen it the next day. This constant “randomization” of the window is starting to bug me. It seems this person is having the same sorts of problems Wavelab 12 Layout is all over the place Randomly at launch - #3 by Rui_Dias
So I am not the only one with this problem…
FWIW
I use Windows 11 and have not had any crash or unusual events in WL till I clicked on the filter button last week, when the attributes are empty, every time I click filter, WL crash.
‘… I clicked on the filter button last week, when the attributes are empty, every time I click filter, WL crash.’
Confirmed.
That’s right Thomas, same happening here!!!
It started a couple of months ago and it’s a random issue. I can’t understand at all what might be causing it.
I’m using 3 monitors and I have my layout saved (even saved it with several different names) and I also have it saved as my default layout.
From time to time, when launching Wavelab Pro 12.0.51, I get a messy layout with everything all over the place. Even when I select a saved preset or restore the default layout, it doesn’t respond and stays in that mess, and I have to put everything in its place which is ultra annoying.

No input from PG.
If you close WL, re launch it and then select the Default Layout … does it remain scrambled?
Yes it does.
It just happened this morning. Even if I recall any layout preset, it stays all scrambled.
It’s so frustrating and so very much annoying.
Same here it defaults back to some “setup” that I never used OR it goes back to the default setup like when I first installed WL 12. Not good…
Please send screen shots.
Hi Phillipe, here go the screenshots you asked for.
This is how the layout should be. It is saved as a preset and also as the default layout.
And this is what happens almost every morning at the first daily launch of Wavelab:
Pretty much the same here except only one screen and it changes on a daily basis. Never had this problem with WL11. Today it was fine with only a few things out of place. Tomorrow, who knows???
If I see clearly, the main screen is restored OK. But not the screens 2 and 3.
Note that what is called a “Workspace layout”, is to layout the WaveLab windows. The plugins are not part of the layout presets (when you save/restore).
What I see is typical of WaveLab getting wrong information about the location/size of screen 2 and 3, from the operating system. Then WaveLab tries to put the windows where it believes they fit.
But I have no clue why it happens.
Do you wait at least some minutes, after the computer has started, before starting WaveLab? (I mean, if WaveLab is auto-started, that’s a bad idea).
Hi Phillipe,
I think that what you’re saying makes a lot of sense. First of all I will try to wait a little bit more, after turning on the computer, and before launching Wavelab. But it also might have something to do with what you were saying about Wavelab getting the wrong info about location/size of screen 2 and 3, from the operating system. I will try to make some experiences about it and see if I get to any conclusion.
I’m aware that 3rd party plugins are not part of the layout presets, but all Wavelab’s meters are, and should be saved on the preset or on the default layout, right? And when everything is working correctly, the 3rd party plugins appear on their right place among all Wavelab’s meters. Anyway the randomness of this issue, continues to confuse me, but I’ll let you know the results after experimenting what I mentioned before. Thanks a lot!!!
Hi Phillipe, once again.
I think the problem is solved.
I’m getting back to you, to report my experience (someone else might need it) after what you said about of WaveLab getting the wrong information about the location/size of screen 2 and 3, from the operating system. I think it’s all about the size.
I noticed that when I use Izotope RX, it was correcting my layout all the time and it made me suspicious about that “size” issue. So, as soon as I saw you writing about the possible screen size mis info, I thought right away…Hum… it might be it!!!
So, I think what is going on here is that, when I use the tiny little bottom part (can’t tell the amount of pixels row, but it’s about 1 cm of display) of “Screen 3”, which is a 43” Samsung TV, sometimes Wavelab scramble everything at launch, maybe because the operating system is not sure if that little piece of screen belong there. So, avoing that tiny little screen row, everything goes as it should. No more scrambled layouts, since then.
It may sound weird, but that’s what I got after making several experiments.
Hope everything keep going like it is now, which would be great!
Thanks a lot for your help and your precious tips.
All the best and take care.

This is interesting info. I hope your solution lasts in time.
