For some reason, I am unable to select all notes from multiple parts in the Key Editor, regardless of what the Part Editing Mode, setting is set to.
I cannot see the velocities, for all selected notes at once, so why is this so?
Question, are the MIDI notes all on different clips? That would explain this behavior. Render the MIDI clips into one clip, you should be able to see all the notes in the editor then.
Hi,
Each MIDI part, from beginning to end are the same length, that is 65 bars.
I have not had this issue previously, I have always been able to select multiple notes, from multiple parts at once.
Looking more closely at the notes themselves, they look greyed out… are they muted by accident? Just wondering about that…
No, it’s just started happening as of version 15.
I rarely mute notes, just parts so I can isolate specific instruments.
No parts are muted, since with the Visibility Tab, I can simply solo selected parts together and then drop parts out or add them back as necessary.
Did you try Ctrl A or the Mac equivalent?
That’s the first, thing I try so I can compare velocities between instruments, since I combine VST synth bases, with sampled basses of real instruments, and those velocities need to be in the same ballpark. Automation also plays a role in determining how loud in comparison something is to something else.
When, I say combine, I mean there is always an anacrusis for the bass part, so it must meld with the previous section, and velocity is something that is of primary use.
Then of course, expression of some kind, and output volume, also play a role.
Since this is bass parts that we are talking about, I am also of the understanding that Legato is defined by single notes, of which bass is, and I do not stray from that format therefore, I need to be able to see all velocities at once and I cannot do that with a simple Select All command.
Hi @emotive,
you can only select the note events and change the pitch if you use the “All Parts Display Mode” in the key editor. It’s not possible to see all velocities of different parts at the same time in Cubase 15. I am not sure if that was possible in previous versions, TBH.
There are some workarounds, though:
In the key editor
Open the key editor in a separate window and display the left zone.
You can display all parts above the key editor window which makes it much easier to change between them for comparison.
In the project window
Open the In-Place-Editor for all parts that are involved. Now you can see all velocities at once even though they are displayed separately.
Clearly, these are workarounds and it would be much more convenient to have access to all velocities in the key editor. That’s definetly a worthy and sensible feature request.
However, for the time being these workarounds are the best I could come up with. HTH.
Hello @Reco29 I appreciate your reply.
Of course, the Drum Map (xml based) works differently, but the principle is conceptually the same, however it is not so easy to differentiate between different instruments, since they in essence are not separate parts, unlike with what I am trying to accomplish, in relation to multiple parts in the Key Editor.
Personally, I don’t see why it should not be possible to display all notes, at once if selected. To me, this would seem to be quite a basic requirement, that is, in relation to Bass Instruments, I use no less than 3 per project, and with the system I am using now (Panther Lake NUC), I will eventually be able to introduce an additional part, that is a non-solid body bass instrument.
Steinberg DAW’s, have come a long way since early days, and while the update cycle will inevitably likely increase, with ever growing fixes and updates being provided at a much higher frequency, due to computing technology improvements; there are still some functions of the DAW (ASIO), that I believe are not yet possible,
Same here. What you are asking for is a rather basic feature and I can’t see a reason why it has not been implemented, yet.
You should turn this into a feature request! This way, people can leave a vote.
What is the point, when there are only half-a-dozen able to be used at any one time.
I don’t know about the “Me Too” feature. Certainly, it would not allow Steinberg to collate actual votes and determine just what should be implemented at any one time.
What I am saying, I suppose is: people are only going to vote for their pet feature, when the fact is, the DAW is very mature with a diverse feature-set, that is very capable and easy to use and although it is a complex beast, in the future, maybe to tame it we must feed it endless text.
Who knows, maybe soon (in Germany perhaps), the DAW will be partially constructed using the text inputs of this very forum.
Cheers
Yes, votes are very limited. That’s kind of problematic, same here. Besides, it’s completly up to Steinberg how they prioritize requests although they have implemented most of the feature requests with the highest votes over the past years.
I am not sure about the “Me Too” button. It certainly serves as some sort of indicator, too.
Well, it’s up to you if you want to open a new feature request thread or turn this one into a feature request or just leave it be. Since I am out of votes, too, I can only leave a “me too” to show my support. Whatever that might do or not do…
Same.
I remember the old days (old, not the older days) of that forum and it was chaotic at best.
This software is great however, I will say the number of views these days tends to have more meaning, in my view than any vote or hand wave.
Likes I suppose are also a metric. Maybe maximum emoticons and emojis in posts tallies are shown.
As I say, without Steinberg there would be no DAW, but it feels at times that it is taking too long, that is for me at least; it is not progressing with the complexity of my compositions, and therefore the ability to develop my project files is limited.
One brick wall I face, is (I am not talking about the one Goethe was looking at) is controlling all these instruments in a simple way and for me that would be implementation of VCA’s, which is not unrelated in my view but appears to be yet another area, in which something may be limited at the level of the audio stack.
Ah, you turned the thread into a feature request ![]()
Steinberg will probably not discuss future implementation strategies in public. So, there’s only so much we can do.
I’m with you - Cubendo is fantastic and I’m thrilled about many features (not all of them, of course) which have been implemented over all these years.
The massive VCA automation bug has been around for 12 years now. Tell me about it…
Is there not a bug for VCA mute, as well?
Automation is yet another function, and when I think about it, as much as it would be nice (VCA Automation), I have very little faith Steinberg will implement it.
I am currently separating left and right hands, with keyboards, and pedals for organ which requires separate instances of instrument tracks (I can’t imagine using MIDI tracks any more, except for multi-output VSTi’s) so more RAM and CPU usage, however, to be able to edit legato notes from separate parts, i.e., bass instruments; together, this would be a genuine start towards more elaborate MIDI, editing facilities.
