I know how it’s SUPPOSED to work by selecting layout, page setup, show flow headings, NEVER. This works on other files. Just not this. What is wrong? See animated gif.
Most likely you have an override on the first page of the layout through no fault of your own because you’ve manually edited the contents of the text frames on the page, or similar, which means that subsequent changes to global options won’t take effect.
In Dorico SE, the best you can do to resolve this is to recreate the layout, but that’s a big pain if you’ve already made a lot of other edits and formatting changes.
If you want to attach the project here, or send it to me directly in a private message, I’ll fix up the first page for you and send it back to you.
Thanks! I appreciate the offer but I just created a “fresh” solo template and copied all the notation over. Works fine now.
I originally created the project by importing music xlm (from Musescore 4). Just the notation (not tab - that seems problematic), then I set it in Dorico to guitar + tablature, etc. So possibly somewhere in there something got stepped on. (and/or me poking around and learning)
Very new to Dorico: I just started looking at Dorico over a few days evaluating. Impressive program - just feels very pleasant to work in (even with the learning curve).
I just want to use it for guitar solo work and SE seems pretty powerful but will likely wind up with Elements for some of the “chord name options” (chord symbols) and a few more enhancements.
Great, I’m glad to know you’re generally getting on OK with Dorico so far. In Dorico Elements it’s possible to reset these kinds of page overrides so you wouldn’t need to recreate the layout. The offer stands if you run into a problem that you can’t figure out within the capabilities of Dorico SE, you can send it over to me and I’ll take care of it for you.
Super - I’ll keep that in mind. I’m planning on working with SE to “get familiar” with it and see what it can do. I already really like the note entry but will have to see what if any limitations I run into.
SE doesn’t have a way to change the chord symbols correct? Like DΔ7 vs DMaj7 etc - I believe Elements has a lot of different standards and tweaking - that’s about the only limitation (for me) that I’ve run into with SE.
That’s right, whereas Dorico Elements includes all of the customisation options for chord symbols. Pro goes even further, allowing you to graphically tweak individual chord symbols and define default appearances for specific chords.
