Can't activate manual condensing?

Hi smart people!

I can’t for the life of me figure out why most of the systems in this short piece are condensing correctly, but two of them are being stubborn and keeping Tenor and Bass separate. I’ve tried deleting all lyrics from the staves in question, duplicating lyrics between Tenor and Bass staves (though they’re not in the other systems), and made sure there are no breath marks or other inconsistencies between the staves. The rebellious systems don’t seem to be any different, content-wise, from the systems that are behaving themselves.

Furthermore, when I try to activate manual condensing, none of the items in the Condensing Change dialog will let me even select them to change anything:

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!

David

If you go to Library > Notation Options > Condensing, you’ll find a bunch of options that you can set as you wish. These are rules - if pitch crossing isn’t allowed, for instance, Dorico won’t condense measures such as 21 and 26 as the bass’s C is higher than the tenor’s Bb.

If you can’t find a combination of Notation Options that work across the whole Flow, you can add a Condensing Change and set new Options from that point onwards (either to the end of the Flow or to the next Condensing Change). The first thing you need to do when adding a Condensing Change is tell the dialog which instruments/staves you want it to affect, using the tickboxes in the left side of the dialog. Do that (you haven’t) and you should find that the options within the main part of the dialog become available to you.

ACH! As always, there was a simple solution. “Pitch crossing” was indeed the gremlin! Thanks so much for the patient, detailed solution, @pianoleo!
