Can't figure out how to remove empty music

I am trying to create a narrator part for a choral (SATB + Piano) piece. I have decided to mark out the words rhythmically in a separate “Narrator” part. (I used the hand clap instrument and changed the labels) I would like to remove the empty measures while the narrator rests. This would be to clean up the part and to make it easier for the narrator to read the words. I will make a separate page in the front matter for the text without rhythm, but I would also like a narrator “part” that shows the rhythm.

How can I do this?

I have tried manual staff visibility and cutaways, but neither hides all the empty bars. Manual staff visibility has done absolutely nothing and trying to do a cutaway results in the image below and only works if I have multi-bar rests turned off.

The cutaway look is closer to what I want, but won’t cutaway all of the measures between 11 and 84.

Hi @Edward_Angelo, and welcome to the Forum.

Those bars are not empty: they contain several meter and tempo changes, that will split the multi measures.

As you say, the Cutaway gives a result near your needs, but as you stated, it cannot work in conjunction with multi-bar rests…

(Just a suggestion#: If the Narrator part should help with following what is happening in the music, probably your Narrator would like to see those meter and tempo/character changes, and possibly would like to have some Cues, as reference…)

If you could post just the Narrator Layout, I am sure someone can experiment and look for other ways to obtain what you want (maybe with some workaround…).
