With Pianoteq 9.2.1, I cannot hear passages marked ‘ppp’. What can I do about that? Not sure where to start fixing that. In the piano instrument or in Dorico.
Have you tried raising the volume slider in Pianoteq? I suspect this will remedy the issue.
No difference. Weird. Its just ppp. PP works OK.
I was curious if I would have the same problem and created a simple test file. All dynamics work here, from pppp to ffff. I am using the latest version of Dorico and Pianoteq 8 as opposed to 9 (but that shouldn’t make a difference) and use the default expression map.

Ha! I switched to CC11 Dynamics instead of Default. All beautiful now.
Just curious, what CC was the default? (I’m not using Pianoteq, but my understanding is that CC7 is volume and CC11 is expression — sometimes as a percentage of volume.)

The Default expression map is Velocity for dynamics, not CC.
Expression Maps are great, but they are a bit of a mystery to me. I would not have known that about Default, although I suuppose if is deep in the manual somewhere.

I remember first coming across the explanation that velocity for piano dynamics works fine because the piano player has no control over volume after a string sounds whereas many (if not most) other instrumentalists are able to shape volume and sound over a note’s duration. Such instruments typically use cc curves to effectively “draw in” volume changes.
