Can't open file

I can create new files and save them, but whenever I try to open a file, the loading gets stuck at 50%.
Happens with even small files. Have restarted my computer several times. No other files open.
What can I do?

The same problem here with mac pro. I’ve installed the program twice, but no progress.

Can you attach the contents of ~/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Dorico/application.log as that will tell us what the application was trying to do at that point. At 50% that is probably the point where the audio engine is trying to load sounds. Something that does often happen is that some 3rd party plugins (particularly those from Waves) can pop up dialogs that get lost, so Dorico is actually waiting for them. Try tabbing through your windows to check you don’t have any dialogs active.

Thank you for the quick response.

Here is the log:

There are no hidden dialogs

Ok, so this is a hang while Dorico is waiting for the audio engine to restore the data. Can you check - when this happens, open Activity Monitor and see if the VSTAudioEngine process is still running? If it has crashed then Dorico will wait for a process that never returns. If it is crashing then there’s an additional log file we can look at.

You’re right, VSTAudioEngine crashes. What log file is that?

If you’re on a Mac, the quickest way to get to this log file is to open a terminal window and copy and paste this command:

open $TMPDIR/VSTAudioEngine

There should be a file called log.txt.

Here is the log file

Here is my DiagnosticReports. Any efforts to solve the problem as fast as you can are
very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Thanks, but in case of a crash the crash report is more important to us. Could you please send a similar like file like marcopolo did, so that we can see if it is really the same issue.

[Steinberg only: Logged as AD-236]

Thanks for sending that - this isn’t a crash that we’ve seen before. Do you have any input MIDI devices attached to your system? If so, could you try disconnecting them temporarily to see if you are then able to load the project?

Could you please also post one of your files that lead into that crash?

Here’s a file that leads to that crash.
I disconnected my MIDI Keboard - opening still hangs at 50%.

Thomas

OK, the forum seems to ignore *.dorico-files as attachments. So I try it with a zip-file.

I’m experiencing the same 50% halt issue. I have attached my VST-engine crash report.

Thanks guys, we will have a look immediately.

I’m not home, so can’t send any files right now.

One thing that might be interesting:
Dorico won’t recognize my midi device. Have restarted my computer and the app several times without any luck. Works fine in other apps. I noticed from another thread in this forum that Boye has the same problem. Might this be related?

Same problem on my MacBook Pro

Could you all please tell us which MIDI keyboards you are using and if you are using any other utilities that might also be accessing MIDI devices (eg MIDI monitors, virtual cables, etc). These are crashes that none of our beta testers have encountered, and so it could be specific to a single device.
