I’ve been working with Cubase for over 2 decades & never had these problems. I’ve edited a longer piece of chamber music (5 audio tracks) with few problems. Now I need to redo some of the edits that have cross-fades, and it keeps crashing Cubase (11 and 14, Mac OS 13). I’ve looked through several previous threads on the problem (apparently it goes back to Cubase 10) and found no solutions there. “Remove fades” has no effect, and in the “Direct Online Processing” window, there is no fade listed. If I try to move or resize the piece (or pieces) of audio with the fade, immediate crash. I can’t cut & delete the bit of audio audio with the fade either, insta-crash. Same thing happens when I start in safe mode with disabled preferences. I’m losing hours of work & getting nowhere. It’s always astonishing when a problem like this pops up after years of smooth work, but it makes Cubase useless as an audio editor for me. I do have to finish the project quickly though, so any advice would be appreciated.
To be more precise, I seem to be able to remove cross fades. But in a few places I think I made a double fade, ie. when the cross fade is removed, there is still a fade-in on the second audio clip, overlapping the first. In this case, I can’t remove it, move or resize either audio clip, or move the handle on the fade. Anything I attempt will crash Cubase instantly.
I did find a workaround, by going back to the project level, and making a cut in the audio tracks there (rather than in the audio editor. Then it seemed the little overlap could be removed in the audio editor (after it was separated from the other bit of audio). Still, it would be nice to know what causes the bug that prevents removal of the fade-in, or any other operation on it without causing a crash.
