Can't save or continue working due to DCOM problem

Just my luck - I suddenly can’t save my work or indeed continue working on my project due to whatever this message means:“DCOM connection to program ‘Synsopos.exe’ failed. Error:The RPC server is unavailable” and the Eternally Spinning Little Blue Wheel on the cursor. I can’t even close the program in the normal way for the same reasons.

I understand from searches that this can happen, but it always seems to happen to Cubase users and involves a dongle, an item which wasn’t required when I installed Dorico Pro 3. The help page suggests I check whether the DCOM Server Process Launcher is running (I did, and it is), but the subsequent instructions are quite techie in nature, and I’d just like some reassurance that - if I did attempt this solution - I wouldn’t lose my Dorico licence (it being a virtual rather than a physical one).

I’ve been using Dorico for just a few days, so I’m still feeling my way.

UPDATE In the end, I decided just to shut Dorico down via the Task Manager. Wonderfully, it not only restarted successfully but also offered a dialog which enabled me to recover my project intact. Phew.

There is a newer version of the eLicenser Control Center software available which addresses that DCOM issue. Please go to https://www.steinberg.net/en/company/technologies/elicenser.html and download and install.

Wow, thanks!

What is going on with this issue? I have it too and have not been able to fix it.
I have not been able to use Cubase for 6 months now and started using Mixbus.
Why does Steinberg sell software that you can’t use? Why don’t they fix this?

Did they fix this in the new release Cubase 11?

No, it’s not a Cubase issue but eLicenser software problem. And the fix is to download the latest eLicenser Control software from https://www.steinberg.net/en/company/technologies/elicenser.html
