I’m not sure if this is a Dorico issue or a NotePerformer issue, but I figured I’d post here.
When in the NotePerformer window if I choose a sound on the left side of the mixer, I’m able to change it to Upright Bass, but if I’m on a channel strip that’s on the right half of the mixer, I’m unable to change it. I’ve tried changing my resolution and scaling, as the window is not resizeable. Any help here would be appreciated.
To add, the arrows keys do not work in this window
I was able to solve it by first changing the instrument to “Upright Bass,” reapplying the playback template, enabling independent voice playback, and then changing my voice 2 “Upright bass” to be a “Solo Contrabass”. This is for correct playback of arco and pizz in a commercial small ensemble setting, the solo contrabass pizz. doesn’t really sound proper, and “Upright Bass” doesn’t have arco.
But I’d still like to know if it’s possible to just change the instrument. It seems bizarre, that the options when opening on the right hand side are different than when they open on the left.
You seem to have discovered a minor bug in NotePerformer’s user interface. Here is an obscure way to change the sound of a NotePerformer channel to Upright Bass without using the Override Sound menus in NotePerformer’s mixer.
- Create a new Dorico expression map with the following Init actions:
- In play mode, select the track for which you want to use the Upright Bass sound.
- Temporarily change the expression map for the selected track from NotePerformer to the map created in step 1.
- Play several seconds of your project.
- Open NotePerformer’s mixer and confirm that the sound of the channel associated with the selected track has changed to Upright Bass.
- Change the expression map for the selected track back to NotePerformer.
- Delete the expression map created in step 1.
