In this example, I want a hairpin (>) in the second bar of the tied notes (bar 74). That does not seem to be possible because I cannot select a tied note.
I can cut the ties, enter the dynamics, and then tie the notes again, but is there a more direct solution? I often change dynamics several times as I develop a piece.

I would double-click to the right of the note in bar 74 (you can also double-click below the note, e.g. on the first line to get to the correct start position directly)
then back up using arrow keys;
SHIFT+D to open the Dynamics popover and enter >
This gives “nothing” as result, until you press the space bar
Space as many times until you get the > to end where you want.
I find this one really obtuse. But you must give the gradual dynamic some length after you have entered it (and nothing has happened)!!!
It is obtuse because in many other situations (like enter gibberish in a popover) Dorico will fail silently.
