Hello everyone,
Long time user of Cubase and Garritan but after a computer and backup crash I have had to upgrade everything.
So, now I’m using a Mac mini M4 with Cubase 14 and I can’t find a way to access my Garritan samples. Looking at previous topics, it seems that is not really happening for the foreseeable future.
Q. Is there an audio sample database that I can use which will deliver sound excellence? I need more than synthesised sounds etc.

Hi,
To understand your post… You can see the plug-in in Cubase, but the samples are not available in the plug-in, right?
You can solve this in the stand-alone mode too. Just locate the library. This has nothing to do with Cubase.
Thanks for the response but, unfortunately, the plug-in is not showing up at all. I’m not saying it’s a Cubase thing by the way. It’s an Apple Silicon thing as much as a Garritan thing because the two products don’t gel.
What other sound options are available that will work with Silicon and Cubase 14? That’s what I’m really asking.

Hi,
Is it a VST2 or VST3 plug-in? VST2 plug-ins are not supported on Mac (M processor) natively. So you would need to start Cubase in the Rosetta mode and you would need to enable VST2 plug-ins in the Studio > VST Plug-in Manager.
Just an FYI - Garritan ran fine on Apple Silicon. I would test it for you but I deleted it as part of my (joyful) removal of Finale. I know it’s not much help, but just letting you know native mode was never an issue for me.
Depending on whether the Garritan libraries you’re using are the ones that run under Kontakt or the ARIA Player, you may need to update to the VST3 version of the relevant sample player. While I use Garritan stuff on Windows, I’m pretty sure both sample players are available in VST versions for Apple silicon.
Aria Player on macOS is Apple Silicon Native, and it has a VST3 plug-in. I don’t think this is an Apple Silicon issue, or a Cubase issue.
I would first try re-installing Aria Player, and also the Garritan Libraries if there is a problem there (as there are files that need to be placed to register the libraries with the Aria player).
Aria Player has been M1 Native for years, at this point. The VST2 was only really needed for Finale on Windows, which doesn’t support VST3 (on macOS, Finale can use Audio Units).
All very interesting replies, thank you.
I did look at reinstalling Aria but the most recent download appeared to be from 2019. It didn’t make sense to use it. However, if there are VST3 versions there I can try again.
Rosetta seems so backward but, again, if that’s what it takes!
All the best

Garritan 5 personal orchestra works just fine in Cubase and Apple Silicon (I’m using it, running a M2 Mac mini). Aria player is VST3. And Silicon native.
I think there are some possible alternatives available.
Vienna Symphonic Library and Spitfire are the most advanced I came across in the last months. Both offer some free content to get a feeling for the products.
Thanks for that. I now have ARIA ability. Still working out how to connect with my Garritan files. The plug-in manager shows a connection bit the actual ARIA instrument panel won’t link when I try to add the instrument.
Thanks for the info on Vienna and Spitfire. Could also be worth the effort.
Interestingly (for me, at least!) is that I have been able to sort everything out to my satisfaction.
My son discovered that my original Garritan settings and enabling had not transferred across when I performed the file transfer from the recovery drive after the crash. So, with some exercising of the system, we managed to reactivate Garritan and all of my original instrument choices were available. The only pain after was having to reassign every individual track for every song file but way better than having to assign sounds I find less than useful.
For the money the IK Multimedia Philharmonik is incredible deal.
I love the sound, although I only dabble with the orchestral stuff.
