I’m sorry, but I’m not sure what you’re trying to tell me. Can you please elaborate?
I know which keys on my MIDI keyboard produces the conga sounds, but the notes I enter don’t play back the correct congas.

The good thing is, you have accomplished to put notes into the different lines/instruments now :pray:t2:

As far as I know the provided sound library of Dorico supports only two different conga sounds.

If you are fine with these two conga sounds, then now we just have to figure out, why some of your instruments play a different sound.

When I added my different congas, all matching sounds were present automatically, no need for an additional step.

I need preferably at least three conga sounds to include in the sound file of the score I have to submit to the professor. This seems like an easy task to accomplish, but it has taken up all my time that I could have spent finishing my horns section arrangement.

Why can I play all the congas on my MIDI keyboard in Yamaha GS, General MIDI, others but I can only enter two?

The percussion staff plays the sounds of the selected percussion map (Yamaha XG map according to post #18) in the selected VST instrument. (HALion Sonic). E4 is Low Conga, D4 is (Mute) High Conga, C4 is High Bongo and B3 is Ride Cymbal 2

Let’s not make things more complicated than they are. Yes there are only two default conga sounds, but each of them will play at different pitches. So you have almost unlimited possibilities even with the default. Your professor will not be able to distinguish, btw.
My little sound snippet I posted further up has three congas, using the default library sounds. Look at the bottom: Can't write Congas - #8 by k_b
I’ll post it here again:

Yes, I am aware of this, but if you enter into the percussion staff only two will play back regardless the notation

I made a little screen recording, inputting three different congas. Make sure to have your volume turned up:
3 congas - input

Yes, because there are only two congas available in the percussion map, and eventually the percussion map defines which MIDI key plays which note/instrument, the notation is irrelevant.

Thanks for the description and images. I learned something even though I don’t need congas today.

OK, thank you. What did you do to achieve this? What sound library and percussion map did you use? Etc.

Egor, I have listed all my steps above, with screenshots and sound example. I just added the congas. All sound issues happened automatically. They are the sounds Dorico has “built in”. I think on iPad it is HALion Iconica Sketch.
I don’t even know what a percussion map is…:grimacing:

That’s amusing lol

I was tossing up whether to actually tell you or not, but they map Instruments and their Playing Techniques to specific MIDI notes.

Can you please screenshot your Track inspector and VST and MIDI windows. Just click on Play tab and you’ll see it.

Thank you!

Could you please also screenshot the mixer for the conga setup you created? Just click on the little arrow at the bottom of the score, like you do for advanced settings, and then click on the mixer icon. Thank you for that!

Thanks Daniel, that makes sense - absolutely.

Hello Egon,
This is the screenshot, inclusive the mixer at the bottom.
I tapped onto the little triangle next to “Perkussion” to display Conga 1…3.
I have not changed anything in this area, it’s just what Dorico “gave me” when I added my conga(s) on the iPad, very colourful:
