Cantai… expectations?

Yes, the final version (by the time we’re in Beta) splits the entire score into segments, and renders all of it, then, as you make changes, only renders the changed/added sections.

There’s a problem with the International Phonetic Alphabet though. It keeps changing! Back in 1960 when I first learned it, I became capable of reading it quite well, and reproducing the intended sounds accurately, or as accurately as an American-English-speaking mouth could do.

I really didn’t keep up with its evolution, and when I try to read it now, I have no clue whatsoever what I’m supposed to be saying. There are more than twice as many symbols now as there were in 1960! I realize this became necessary as they added more supported languages into the mix, but it left me behind. And if the trend continues, it would leave cantai behind as well.

Dorico 6 can now export MIDI with lyrics, so this should aid Cantai compatibility!

Actually it was useful to test Cantai some weeks ago, but now it’s reading xml

Do you, Marc @MarcLarcher, or anyone else happen to know if exported Dorico 5 XML and Dorico 6 XML files are the same or maybe even very different for Cantai web renderer to eat as imported food as long as we don’t have the Cantai VST for Dorico available? Thank you.

The release notes contain a complete chapter about changes in MusicXML, so there will clearly be differences in the export.

Thank you so much, @JuergenP. I read it now.

I tried a midi export from Dorico 6 straight to the Cantai render tool and the interpretation and clarity of the lyrics seemed much better compared to the previous routine using Utaformatrix along the way. (I’m presuming nothing new at present on the Dorico API front to help the Cantai VST along - which is a great shame given that the VST alpha linking to Musescore 4.5.2 is pretty much there).

The Kickstarter made it over the line!

So pleased for poor Richard!
A few hours left if anyone’s still willing to help, there’s so much they need to do.

Yep and the alpha VST3 is being used on Musescore with the bugs being ironed out by the testing group. So the new app is now truly on it’s way. So easy to use even at alpha stage compared to the stuff the dinosaur sample library companies have been churning out for the last 20 years with ‘ooo-aaah’ options. Mind you I shall probably try a cantai solo vocal backed by an ‘mmmm-ing’ sample choir patch at some time in the future :joy::scream:. Do support Cantai, any who have not so far - it really is as someone earlier said here - a worthy cause for those interested in choir or solo voice virtual instruments.

I certainly wouldn’t consider EW Hollywood Choirs a dinosaur and it certainly has more options than ooo and ah. The wordbuilder technology, with time and patience, is really a marvel.

Fair point I stand corrected. And I was not thinking of Hollywood Choirs as I use it and have used the word builder stuff and learnt a lot about votox, phonemes etc in the process. But the word builder side does take a lot of work and time - and doesn’t seem to get that much ongoing development. It seems much the same now as when I first started using east west stuff around 3 years ago.

But I do take your point - I’m just excited to see something new on the block as it were.

I wasn’t convinced it would, so I’m quite glad to see it did. I donated early on, but was very surprised to see that it was an all-or-nothing affair, and it wasn’t looking very hopeful for a while.

The last info I saw on the Dorico version mentioned that Dorico was lacking some necessary things but would have them resolved in an upcoming release. Were these details ever made known? Was it just lyrics in MIDI? Do we know if v6 resolves this?

I believe it was the missing info passing from Dorico to the cantai VST about the current play position so the singers can keep in sync.

Copied from one of Richard’s discord posts:

The issue isn’t getting the score from an export, the issue for Cantai is triggering the export itself from within the VST, which the remote API didn’t support.

Yup the Dorico 6 midi export direct to Cantai render app works great :+1::+1:. I tried it on Dorico 6 release day - and it worked really well.
