Cantai… expectations?

This probably has nothing to do with it but may be worth a try. I’m guessing the word in sanctus; I think it should be hyphenated as sanc-tus. Just guessing that the “ct” as an initial consonant group might be confusing to Cantai!

You’re right that the syllables aren’t correct. I originally put in what the composer wrote. I changed it to sanc-tus, but the SSSSS remained. I sent a note to Richard. Thanks!

In the live stream on YouTube the other day, I heard John Barron say that the reduced price of 150USD would be available until the 20th of may. Is that correct, or is it full price from now on?

That may have been in error. Website shows it is full price now.

Interesting, that means the design must have changed a bit from the planned design early on. On the Discord server, Richard had explained to me that the VST3 plugin would request MusicXML from Dorico triggered via the remote API, so that plan must have changed since.

I didn’t know if I should start a new topic or tack this on to this one… so, here goes:

I downloaded the full live version of Cantai, got it registered, installed the playback template file for Dorico, after having upgraded D. (I had trouble at first because the “instructions” don’t mention that you must first UNZIP the files!!)

Anyway that done and out of the way, the one song file I’d been using to test during the beta, worked great.

However, I’d like to try a choral work (with piano accompaniment and obligato oboe).
I can’t figure out how to get the voices to sing at all.

The playback template file IS applied to this document.
So Cantai is appearing in my list.My piano and oboe are to be played by NotePerformer, so I have a playback template that contains both Cantai and Noteperformer.

It IS applied to the file.
But in “Play”, Dorico is showing one instance of Noteperformer, with all four voices, the oboe, and the piano.

Is there a way to have the playback template assign voices to the 4 choral parts?
Or do I have to sit here and manually assign each one and count MIDI channels?

I think you want to make sure Cantai is above NotePerformer in the shared playback template - the order matters. Normally it uses the instruments in order, so if NotePerformer is on top it will use that for voices too. But if Cantai is above NotePerformer in that list then it should use Cantai for the voices and only fail over to NP for anything that is not a vocal part.

Yup, it is already (that was specified in the video on “how to…”)

And now I’m trying it and somehow, while it refused to do anything yesterday when I tried, today it automatically recognized all my vocal staves as such.
It’s taking forever to “task in progress” mind you, but I sort of expected that. It must be rendering the lyrics.

That was almost immediately corrected by Richard in the chat, which John said when he caught up reading them.

This podcast with Richard provides some technical background on Cantai… pretty interesting.

Will there be children’s choirs with solo and ensemble?

Yesterday, I was played around with Dorico, Cantai and some Latin choir pieces I have on my computer.
Today, I took a listen to that podcast.
Then, I had a rather amusing thought: I’ll write a choral piece, using only ‘aah’ and ‘oohh’ as lyrics - to see how the Cantai singers will deal with it.

An arrangement of “Werewolves In London”? I recall that has some "Ahh-ooo"s in it.
:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Can Cantai play microtones? And can the singers do non-vibrato?

Does any one knows if Cantai will be available for DAWS?
I would be interested to use it with Cubase.
And if yes, will the single lifetime license, which right now covers Dorico, Sibelius and MuseScore, also cover DAWS or will it be a separate product?

it’s been planned to make it eventually available for DAW’s but the first priority (quite rightly in my view) is notation software.

Amen. DAWS already get enough ‘goodies.’ It’s our turn:wink:

Does anyone have a tip on how to get a long U sound, so the Immutably has a “mute” sound and not a “mutt” sound?

Perhaps something like ‘mewt’?

The voices are inconsistent; some do a better job of this than others.
