OK I’ve searched through the hundreds of posts about Cantai, and have found several dealing with the issue of having Cantai work on intel models of Mac. Can’t find any recent comments.
My issue is this: I’m now ready to try Cantai. My computer isn’t. The last I heard, Cantai for Mac was limited to models using Apple’s own chips. And I’m not buying a new computer for the sole purpose of using one app. So my question is this: Has anyone heard anything recent about this issue? Is anybody here actually using it on an Intel Mac, and, if so, how? Thanks.
Yes, I’m aware of what the website says. But I’m pretty sure that several months go the founder posted to this forum that intel support was ‘on they way.’ Or maybe I’m misremembering. I couldn’t find that post when I searched for it.
I may be misremembering but I think Richard said on the podcast he did with ‘Scoring Notes’ a few weeks ago that it was on the cards in the future, as you say, @L3B.
Meanwhile, in the ‘Does Cantai work on Intel Macs or Windows ARM devices?’ FAQ of System Requirements here, it has: ‘Intel-based Macs and Windows ARM devices (e.g. Snapdragon PCs) are not supported for local rendering. MuseScore Studio users on those systems can still use Cantai via online (cloud) rendering, which is subject to the 180-minute weekly quota.’
Intel Mac / Rosetta / separate render machine Cantai has to run on the same machine as Dorico for now. Intel and cloud rendering are a priority for summer 2026.
However things can change.

Let’s see if he answers, as you know it is a small team, bugs and improvements to be done, and the Sibelius Cantai was recently released, so there might be fixes to be done there. Like Dorico updates, we have to wait.
Local rendering will stay Apple Silicon only. The Intel path is cloud rendering, which works today in MuseScore Studio and comes to Dorico and Sibelius in 3.4.0, targeted early 2027. It is subscription-only and carries a weekly quota.
I did say summer 2026 in the spring — that was my miss, Sibelius and Ottetto took the slot. Treat early 2027 as a target given that history. If I can advance it, I will.
Capacity here flexes month to month, so anything past the next release is a plan rather than a schedule.
