Capo chord symbols

I’m a finale refugee and there’s a lot that I really like about Dorico that I didn’t like about finale— page layout and meaningful upgrades being the biggest things. But the biggest thing I find really cumbersome right now is setting capo cords in lead sheets. To set a capo chord you have to go into a dialog that requires you to basically do semitone bath to get the “C4 sounds like X” to be correct. In Finale you simply said “Capo 2” and it worked. What am I missing here?

My guess is that you have to go to the layout options - fretted instrument - use fretted instrument transposition.

Be sure to have the right layout selected on the right side.

You also have to activate transposed pitch as the guitar with capo is treated as a transposing instrument.

I hope this helps.

Greetings,

Johannes

You specify the capo transposition and how you want it to display in Setup. Here’s a gif:

There are different appearance options too so you can just show the main chord, the transposed chord, or both. The formatting of these is controlled in Engraving Options / Chord Symbols / Position and Capo.
